Getting ready to order a cam from Crow.

I am thinking maybe 142221 or 14776

This is for a carby crossflow in a 68 Mustang, C4, 3.00 gears and 225 60 16 rear tires. Semi daily driver.

Also, am getting the dizzy gear to go with it. The site says something about using their springs and retainers. Do I have to do this? The budget is getting real low and I would like to use the stock valves and springs if I can get away with it and if they spec out.

Ive seen it recommended that you can go to 211/221 at 50 duration with stock auto or even higher in some cases with wider LSA but generally its not recommended by after market cam manafacturers (which are probably conservative for safety margin). In fact Crow dont recommend going into much cam at all for auto but a good somewhere in between would be something around, inlet 209/ ex 210 at 50 duration in.486/ ex.491 110-112 LSA to about 4500-4600rpm by Wade cams (might get this one myself). Or a dual pattern 204/214 at 50 duration of similar specs from Crow. Might be safer to go for 112 LSA just for extra peice of mind. Wade dont charge any extra for this aprox $210 Aust.
Problem is I think they all recommend new springs and retainers for there cams. I just purchased some for my crossflow about $80.00 Aust for crome moly retainers and about $100.00 Aus for 351C 4V springs you should be able to track down some cheaper over there. Also I think its Powerboss that make cam and lifter kits for appox $200.00. I think they are fine to use from what Ive heard.
These recommendations are for a 250 and should still get you good power with lots of grunt.
