HI all
Well I am new to the board, let me just start off by saying thanks for all the help ahead of time! My name is Bryce, I ahve a 66 uncut halfcab Bronco with a stock 170 I just replaced the points for the first time. With sucses I might add! I installed new plugs and cap and rotor. But now the carb is leaking. So I to it apart and I am now soaking it in gunk carb cleaner. But I have a bigger prob now. Two of the rubber seals that are in it are basically junk, one is the black seal that seals aroud an about 1/4 or smaller rod that if I remember goes through near the top of the float bowl. and the othere seal was inside I belive at the power valve actuator? Does that sound right that seal was red. I looked up a seal kit on napa and it looks like the right one it says it is for a holley 740? But when I type that into yahoo search it comes up as a 2 bbl? What gives? And the gasket kit even though it lookes right it does not have the two rubber seal i need to rebuild this carb. And a rebuilt one is 168.00 from Napa.
Can anyone help me with some right direction? If there is anymore info I can give let me know! this is the #'s I got off of the carb.

When I did my carb on by stang I got it apart and then got online. I used napa's site because they seem to have the best pictures. I just looked at all the pictures till I saw one that looked right as far as gasket shapes and such. The Napa kits come in a box with an inner box with plastic over the top so you can open it and look without 'opening' it. IIRC the description didnt match but the parts did. For some reason carb kits always seem to come with extra parts so dont worry if you have a few left over. There always seems to be one part that needs a little modifaction too so dont throw away your old stuff till you are sure things are working.

they come with extra gaskets so you can pull it apart if it needs any more internal tweaking. the kit I got for my 1940 Holley had like 6 air horn gaskets, 4 base gaskets, and 1 intake manifold to water heater gasket.

The last few kits that I have bought for holleys, and rochesters have not had extras of the same parts. Extra air horn gaskets would be handy for messing with float levels and such. The parts seem to end up with must be for subtile changes between years or something like that... or maybe they just like to mess with people by throwing random parts in??

Well I have some pics of the carb from Napa I know it is the right one, but like I said before, there is a rod ( i believe it is the throtle conecting rod for the choke?) anyway it runs right through the float bowl and it has a black seal and it is completely destroyed! he kit on Napa does not sho it, and there was also a seal inside I beleive it came from the power valver actuator? it was red, it isnt in the kit eigther. What should I do? I have some pics But I guess we cant post them here It says that it is a holley 740 but like I said befor when I type holley 740 in my google search it keeps coming up as a 2 bbl. Is there anyway I can send some of you guys someof these pics and you can verify what exactly I have?

Thanks again!

Aftermarket carb, holley 1940. I know just what you're taking about. It goes into the top of the carburetor, down around, into the front, connected by linkage to a trianglish piece with 3 holes. It's a small rubber seal, with a hole through it. It is a PAIN in the BUTT to get the new one in there. =D It will come in the kit if you get the right one. =D I could also be horribly out of the ballpark though. Post pictures of your carb and we'll help you find a kit.

Hey guys!
I broke down and went to my local Napa with their part number and the guy at the parts counter told me that in their comp it does not show it comming up as a 740!? HUH weird! Anyway I baught the kit they had and it had all the parts I needed including the seal for the pump rod that goes through the float bowl. It is a 1940, or a 1945 or 46 and so on. thanks for all the help! I am really glad to be a member of this board.! Hey if you get a chance check out my pic, there are some of my Broncos. They are on the previous post.

OK
Same carb
Now a problem! I rebuit it and it is pouring out fuel from a hole about 1/4 in inside the air horn what did I do wrong?

That sounds like the float chamber needle valve isn't shutting off correctly.

Welll I unfortunaly paid for the more expenxive one! LOL But I have a bud that works at Napa and it was 17.00
