I go to shift into third. It starts rattlin' like it WANTS to go into gear, so I shifted back into 2nd then into third again. This time it went.
When I got to the shop, I popped the hood and sure enough, that linkage was wiggly where it shouldn't be. Mechanic sez "Bushing Kit!" like they grow on trees around this neck of the woods.
Does anyone here in 223ville have a set to sell or know where I can get a set of shift linkage bushings for the old beast? I got part numbers from a '56-'57 Chassis Parts and accessories catalog I got from an old fellow in Iowa back in the 70's. My '56 service manual doesn't even show this linkage....'55 manual probably don't either
Ford numbers for the TOP (Column) End look to be as follows:
washers, need 2, part #353509-S (total 4)
clips, need 2, part # 352358-S (total 4)
bushings, need 2, part # 7343
Bushing sleeve, need 2, part #7341
Numbers for the BOTTOM (Tranny) are :
adj. sleeves, need 2, part # 7353
spring-washer, need 2. part #351341-S
washers, need 2, part #353509-S
clips, need 2, part #352358-S
Looks to be a real simple fix, just pop some clips and replace sleeves and bushings. My local parts guy doesn't have 'em listed...his books don't go back that far. Any assist gratefully acknowledged.
