does anyone know where i can find a turbo for mycar i have a 1980 fairmont futura

best of my knowlege there is no set turbo for the small sixes, pretty much anyone who has one has fabbed the manifolds themself, and gone and picked up a turbo from a junkyard, ebay, or some other place

8)

I would try to find a TO3 turbo for a 200, and a TO4 for a 250.

IIRC Ford, Volvo, and some Chevy's used TO3's.

I have a '80 Mustang and I have a turbo from a '84 Thunderbird Turbocoupe 2.3L turbo motor.

I have seen several installs of turbos on the 200 Inlines in Foxes and the common way to mount the turbo is to make a J-pipe and plumb the turbo into the intake and use a draw through carb.

A blow off valve was used between the J-pipe and the turbo.

A tubular turbo header would be better but no one makes one. IIRC Turbo Bob, aka BobLee40(IIRC) was on here asking about interest for a turbo header but only a handful of people replied.

If set up properly and using forged pistons, you could possibly get as much as a 75% increase in HP and a 60% increase in torque. That might be as much as 210hp and 260ft lbs of torque.

This info is from the 1988 article in Mustang Magazine where Ak Miller gave advice for building a 250 I6 with a turbo. I also had the privledge of talking to Ak on the phone about a year ago and got more info.

All the parts can be gotten from

www.turbocity.com

Yeah I have the pics of that Ak article, i think... They had blow thru & a draw thru set ups

I don't believe anyone makes fordged pistons for the 200/250 anymore.

Federal Mogul used to. After a long afternoon on the phone, I found that Federal Mogul discontinued this product.

I tried, summit, jegs, jc whitney, and afew smaller regional suppliers. summit, jegs, and jc whitney had never heard of them for an I6.

The one smaller supplier put me on a confrence call while he called Fedral Mogul (I never was able to contact them by phone), and their rep said they didn't make them anymore. This guy then called me back the next day and told me he called every source he could think of and nobody had any old stock of those pistons.

I was bummed because I wanted to put a set in my Topaz when I redo the engine.

Not quite true...

No one stocks them. But several can make them. I have checked with several companies that specialize in custom pistons like Ross and they have them listed in the not quite custom but we can make them pretty quick category. Prices are anywhere between $400 to $650 and I dont think that includes pins.

If your going to turbocharge its expensive but I would not use cast or Hyper Eutectic(sp?) pistons. There is a reason Ford put forged pistons in all the turbo 2.3L cars and why guys in the Probe 2.0L forums that have turboed on cast pistons are now rebuilding whats left of their engines. You can do it but your taking a heck of an expensive risk.

Not cheap but they are available, they just have to be custom made.
