my 200 has been running great lately so i think i want to upgrde the the old rusty 1 7/8 exhaust to something a little more free flowing. Just wanted to get some opinions i was think of the single exhaust header with single exhaust and a v8 muffler tell me what you guys think i would like a little throaty sound on hard throttle just not something too outrageous. Thanks all info is appreciated

well I just finished welding up my exhaust. 3" w/o a muffler with a side exit infront of the passenger side tire... Before my turbo I ran a glasspack, then after I bought headers ran 2... I got alot of compliments like that.

i saw a video with a fairly stock 250 with 2 in exhaust from mercurymarc i liked the sound a lot. so i think thats what ill get just 1 more question since i'm going from 1 3/4 stock to 2 inch and its more free flowing will the bar have to be adjusted

Howdy Back Daniel:

No, the carb will probably be about right now. Usually, the carbs rare on the rich side when they come from the factory. Going to a 2" system will not require any readjustments.

You might want to bump your initial advance setting to take advantage of the new liberation from back pressure.

I'd reccommend a turbo type muffler. I use a Walker DynoMax. Not too loud, but throaty. I don't think a V8 muffler will offer you anything in performance ore tone gains.

Adios, David

I have a dual outlet header into a 2-1/4" single exhaust with a turbo muffler and it is pretty darn quiet. I would recommend the dynomax as well.

I do think that a dual exhaust for a v-8 would be they way to go, though. Not some crazy loud exhaust like flowmasters, but just a stock replacement dual 2" with regular old quiet mufflers. This would flow more than enough for the 200 and would be quiet. It might have a bit of a burbly pulse and the hot looking dual exhaust, but would otherwise be very civilized.

what kind of dynomax are you guys talking about a turbo muffler? nyone have a soundclip like i said nothing real wild just sometyhing to give it a little rumble under hard throttle

Doesn't have to be Dynomax brand. Any muffler store will have "turbo-tube" mufflers in stock. I got a 2", single exhaust with turbo muffler and chrome tip for $85. It took about 30 minutes for them to do.

The sound is fairly unobtrusive unless I'm deep in the throttle. Which, of course, I do as much as possible because I like to hear it. Turbo mufflers are quieter than normal glasspacks but louder than stock-type mufflers, with a deep, pleasing tone.

Here's a video of a Nissan 2.8L inline six with a turbo muffler. The sound should be similar. There are posts here that had clips of 200s with various mufflers, but some of the links are dead.

Found it.
This is 63droptop's I believe. He has a slight cam too.

Might as well post the rest I found.

Spences66six, true duals with glasspacks and turndowns just before the rear axle.

x21's stock inline six, 200 cid, one 1978 exhaust manifold, stock single pipe leading to a $20 cherry bomb with a turndown in front of the rear axle.

cfmustang's 200 cid with .030 overbore and head milled .060", Clifford dual outlet header through Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, Clifford Weber 2bbl adapter with a Weber 38/38 DGES, Clifford 272 degree hydraulic cam, 1.75 Intake & 1.50 Exhaust SI values (undercut and a 3 angle valve job).

80Stang's 200 with a Dynomax Super Turbo and too many engine mods to list here. Go here to see them.

And lastly here is a video of Okefenokee Comet's 200 with dual out header and Borla XS mufflers.

Enjoy. I like those Dynomax the best I think...
