Hey, My name is Jonathan Moore. I have a 66 stang with an I6 200. I am new at this and I am planning on doing some performance mods to my 200, but I'm not real sure of a good route to go. What parts to get and such. My friend Matt (66sprint6) is helping me but I was just wondering what some of yall have done with you sixes. thanks.

WELCOME, lol, help this guy out guys, just like you helped me when I first joined! Search the forums for topics on duraspark conversions and carb stuff. Its all over the place!

Welcome Jonathan. Having been a steady member for years, we all know the truth.

Matt is nuts, and my strongest suggestion is...copy his car and be mad and quick all at the same time!.

The best thing is take it easy for the first year or so, get some good recipts and an idea on what you are commiting to finacially. Let the head rule the adrenal glands, 'cause the what others do to the I6 can make you want to hit at any aftermarket part!

Best first options after a year of stable grazing for ideas is the T5 swap, a better carb, and electonic ignition. Monte carlo brace, good brakes, tires you are happy with. Look at 8 incher diffs, and whatever. Then save up for an engine rebuild to die for. Sooo much stuff, so much grunt.

lol x I drove my car for the first time and knew I wouldnt be able to stand it like that...... no year here.... but the only thing I have done I suggest everyone to do, install the duraspark ignition from a later vehicle, sooo much better....

I would suggest you start with a safety inspection of your new toy. Check the front bearings and while you’re in there rebuild those brakes and replace the brake line hose from the backing plate to the frame. The brake line hoses have a tendency to become blocked with age and can act like a check valve. Then check and maybe even replace the gear lube in the axel and while you’re in there do the rear brakes too. Be sure to replace those brake line hoses as well.

As long as you’re doing the brakes rebuild the master cylinder or consider upgrading to the later dual piston master.

Now that you can stop safely how about the ride, replace those old shocks with a good set all around they aren’t that expensive.

That would be a good safe place to start and get your hands dirty and not expensive either.

Welcome to the Forum and have fun, Ric.
