New Dizzy for non cross flow?

Hi Guys

Just in the process of installing a 'new' non xflow 250 into my boat and would love to replace the original dizzy. ( and carb if possible)

I see Classic inlines have some dizzies listed which look very nice , but expensive and I'm not sure if they are the right model for 'our' engines.

Are there any after market dizzies or rebuilt ones that can be bought here in NZ?

Cause it's in a boat, I don't use the advance at all (vaume blocked off) and I dont want electronic ( more to go wrong)

Cheers guys :D

why not get the orig dist reconditioned ?

if you want points ( but not electronic)then any aussie ford six dist from 66 to about 72 -74 would work.

i would hazard a guess you do use advance in your engine - mechanical only but not the vacuum advance.

if no reconditioners about in NZ then i am sure a web search would show some here in oz.

you could use the electronic dizzy from an xe falcon, i did and it worked a treat, cheap as chips those dizzies too. all you need is one and a matching coil, then get the dizzy hold down foot machined off and rebush it, slots straight in.
it is an electronic dizzy, but it is pretty trouble free (provided it doesn't get put underwater obviously) i have had no troubles with myne since i swapped, starts easier and gets better spark at high rpms.
people have told me you need a press in sleeve for the block as the outside diameter of the oil pump drive end is less with the xe dizzy, but i've had no problems, and everyone else i've spoken too who've done the swap have had no problems with this.

Thanks Guys

I'll consider those options. I thought my dizzy was vacuume advance only, which is blocked off. It's not such a big issue in a boat. Just time it for WOT and its good enough down low. I tend to sit at about the same revs for 80% of driving. ( 2,500 rpm) , WOT is just over 3,000.

Reading the power increase they recon you get from these

makes me wonder if I should fork out for one. I really would like a few more revs at WOT.. Anyone know for sure if they will fit straight in? I could always carry an old dizzy in the boat for a back up.

Thanks

Rob
