I have a shot as working as an intern this summer at nearby Vortec. I was toured around their facility today and man, I may be a supercharger convert from my turbo ideas for my 300. My potential new boss happened to mention parts are cheap to come by when you work there... :) I'll be doing QA work again (not my favorite thing to do in the world) but heck, what an opportunity.
I saw enough parts to easily fab up a nice custom intercooled blow thru.
Sorry ...just had to share, my juices got flowing again today.
Cheers.

but why? you can get more power from a turbo
and turbos glow red, which is just plain cool

Hey, I didn't say I had the job.

Evan,
In retrospect, there really isn't much difference between the two. Engineering wise, I'm really starting to see some simplicity in the supercharger route- not to say I don't hear you though. If not anything, a supercharger setup would be a good stepping stone to the turbo seeing that much of the boost and fuel related needs would be the same.
To bring all my plans down to earth, it's going to be while before I can get my motor built with all the expense. At a minimum (if I get the job) it would be nice to walk away with a box OR TWO to put around the carb ( I did see a couple of those today - amoung other things).
I post not to tick people off, but to share. It would be nice if I could talk one on one with an "expert" in the field about trim, intercoolers, oiling, fuel...the list goes on. Rest assured I will pass on what I learn (if I get the job). Most of it all will be mic'ing, comparing, and CMM'ing parts- not much to brag about anyway.

I think a vortech would be a good setup for a inline six, boost starts to build where the torque starts to drop off (around 2500rpm) and they hit full boost by 5000rpm. An 8psi vortech setup would carry the awesome lowend torque we have all the way to 4500rpm on a 300-6 and the peak HP would probibly be at around 5000rpm on a 100% stock 300-6. I did the estimated power gain with a vortech once for a EFI 300-6 @ 8psi and It looked like peak torque would be around 340ft-lbs @ 3500rpm and pek HP would be around 260hp @ 4800rpm

I knew better than to read this. Put the boost down, and back away slow.

Fever sets in...

Good luck on the new (potential) job, TR!

I'm on my last few days at Vortech before school starts back up. It has been interesting to say the least. I'm still hell bent on turbo vs. super charge, but I've picked up a lot of info. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to inquire.
