new muffler time

i cut my old rusty POS muffler off today and im ready for something new.

ive been curiouse to hear what it sounds like w/o a muffler and i was disapointed. sounds great at idle but with some throttle it sounds like a mix of a dumptruck and a fart can.

im thinking of picking up a thrush turbo muffler from the local parts store for under $20. the rest of the exhaust om just leaving stock for now

I don't think you'll be dissappointed with the turbo muffler...I just put a cherry bomb turbo muffler on my Mav and it sounds awesome...Have fun :D

i have a thrush glass pack i could put up there but its probably way too long for the stock location.

The one issue, which may be the case with yours too, is that the cherry is gonna be longer than a normal stock mufler, so either you cut the pipe upstream to accomadate it or not run the part of the exhaust that runs over the rear axle.

when i ran dual exhaust on my regal it involved to glasspacks under the floor and i couldnt stand it. felt like my brain was melting so i might skip the glass pack idea, then again that engine probably has alot more exhaust velosity

i did gather up some old pepboyz gift cards and got a cherry bomb turbo II muffler for $4 out of my pocket. i'll post a vid when im done

pretty disapointed with the turbo muffler

dead quiet at idle and a little bit deeper under throttle but i'd say it sounds more echo-ey(sp?)/ricer then it does "muscle car"

maybe with a full exhaust someone might be able to get more out of one of these but if your looking to just cut off your stock muffler and replace it with something to give you more of a performance sound, keep shopping

the hardest thing to get out of our motors is going to be that "muscle car" sound. Even going with something like the flowmaster mufflers, you get a deep sound at idle but it sounds very v6ish/tinny at higher rpms. I sort of got over trying to make cars sound like something they arent. Alot of my friends have imports and after awhile you begin to be able to distinguish cars simply by their exhausts, I have noticed V6 tiburons have a unique sound, just like wrx's. My car sounds like an old farm tractor and I wouldnt trade it for anything!

yea your probably right on that one. i think im just going to run straight pipe or squeez in a glass pack somewhere under the floor

Why not look for some of the older style split headers that run 1/5/3 into one collector, and 6/2/4 in the other. Then run true dual exhausts with small glasspacks near the tips.

Especially combined with a lumpy cam, this will give a more distinctive tone.

cause those headers are like $300 and the muffler i just got was $19.99

i guess you get what you pay for

I second that notion I did a 40 flowmaster with a single 2.25 exhuast and it sounded ok more tractor/ farm vehicle. The i went with Mike's dual header and summit dual kit with turbo muffers and it definetly sounds more sports carish. Nothing like a blown hemi but enough to make someone wonder.

yea im really not looking to spend alot on my 6. a few bucks heer and there to make it a little bit quicker and sound a little nicer is all im trying to do. like the 2bbl swap budgeted in pretty well but $300-400 for a header isnt gonna happen.

Cool. Then that's what I'm going for. Before I do any more fine tuning on my 3x1, I got to replace the stock exhaust. Right now, I'm running a 6 into 1 header feeding a stock Walker muffler dumping behind the rear wheel. Replace the walker with cherry bomb glass pack.

i was able to put the 17in. thrush glasspack in the stock location on my car before i got the whole new exhaust system..
