Noise after carb rebuild

Finally got the center carb rebuilt and installed. I fixed my leaky accel. pump. The car starts, idles at 800 rpm, runs with the choke completely open. But, I now have a noise that I did not have before.

I sounds like an exhaust leak and it happens at idle. It is now coming from the valve cover or oil pan. I took a small pipe and placed it on the valve cover and the oil pan. Placing my ear to the other end of the pipe and I did not hear the noise coming from either place

Could the noise be related to my carb rebuild? If the SCV was stuck or the passage dirty would that impact the vacuum adv, thus causing pre-detonation and my noise? It is a rather load sound and it is not coming from the valve train or the oil pan. Plus I never had this noise before the carb problems. The sound speeds up and slows down as the engine speeds up and slows down. The sound is louder on the passenger side of the car. So, what things should I look at tomorrow?

Thanks

What have you removed or adjusted on the car, since before the noise happened?

The sound description isn't too clear but it may be an exhaust flange leak, or a valve issue. Certainly the description seems to rule out a vacuum leak.

Maybe even a cracked manifold?

I was chasing down a rattle for quite some time, turned out to be a loose alternator bracket bolt on the block. Belts tight?

The only thing that has I have done is rebuilt the carb and changed the T-stat. I have headers and they are tight ( I checked them yesterday ). I have the day off today and I will work on the car today and report back tonite.

Did some more work today. Runs alot better. The noise is coming from the exhaust so I will have to find some header gaskets. I also noticed a noice coming from the water pump. Thanks for all the help

Glad you found the prob..
I have heard that header gaskets are purity $$$$ Some one sugested to use regular gaskets... they well work..
For the pump Might be just a belt WITH THE MOTOR OFF (or corse) grab the fan and see if you can wiggle the pump, if you can then the pumps bad.
