Oil Pan Gasket Options...

I ordered an oil pan gasket for my 223 on Wednesday from Autozone. It was supposed to be in yesterday (Friday). Perfect! I am replacing my rear main seal on Saturday night or Sunday. Naturally, they screwed up the order and it won't be here until next Wednesday.

I just put a new rubber gasket on it a couple of weeks ago. I used the very nasty Permatex gasket adhesive in the can to attach it to the pan and Permatex #3 between the gasket and the block. It sealed tight as a drum.

What are my options if I want to wrap up this little project by Sunday night? Any chance I can get the gasket off without ripping it up? If not, should I just make a gasket using Permatex #3 or the Permatex black?

Thanks in advance for the advise!

Well, I pulled the oil pan off today and it was on there GOOD! The gasket stayed glued to the oil pan for the most, so I left it on there. Once I replaced the rear main seal, I just put a bead of black RTV around the oil pan gasket and reattached it. I'm going to let it cure until tomorrow and then I'll fire her up and see what happens.

Stay tuned...
