Oil Pan Removal 200cid

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have. I have a 1966 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe with the 200cid, 120bhp, 3.3L engine, with the C$ automatic tranny.

Today a buddy of mine and I lifted my car up, drained the oil pan, removed all the screws along with the flywheel cover, and the oil pan will not come off. The Chilton's manual said that removing the pan is all that it takes to get the pan to come off. Unfortunately the bottom pulley on the block is not allowing for the pan to slide out. Now that the pan is off I really need to get the pan out so I can remove the old gasket and put the new one on. I am afraid that if I attempt to scrape the old one off now, pieces of it are going to fall into the hanging oil pan. I would remove the pulley but, a) that would require pulling the radiator and bumper off, and b) I don't feel like messing with the harmonic balancer. I hope I can get the pan off without pulling the engine.

Anyone with ideas? Anything?

Any help I would be grateful for.

Thanks,

-Matt

You shouldn't have to remove the rad, bumper or harmonic balancer just to pull the pan. Remove the 15 or so bolts around the perimeter and it should come off. You might have to drop your sway bar and/or steering drag link, but not the balancer or the flywheel cover. The gasket may just be "glued" on from years of heat cycles, plus you kinda have to work it forward a little to get the rear to drop then pull it back a little to get the front to drop. Hope this helps.

You may have missed a couple of bolts. There are two larger ones on each end of the pand that are 5/16" with 1/2" heads. They are usually buried in dirt and oil. Dig around and you may find a couple more to take out!

Thanks for the help guys,

The problem is that the pan is free, and completely unbolted. However, i cannot get it out from under the car. It is currently resting on a cross member, that is welded to the frame. I really need to take the pan out from under the car, and cannot figure out how to get out.

Could you loosen the tanny mount and the engine mounts. Might be able to lift the motor enough to get it out.

i hear you really have to wiggle that out.

removing the crossmember helps

your crosmemeber should have two very large bolt heads that bolt to the frome. opn mine it was removed long ago I have it and very nicely painted waiting to go back on. Only problem is the old bolts are still in there broke off. I tried drilling up through them to ez out them but gave up after 1/2 hour so of drilling. Your saying the crosmember is welded on doesn't surprise me as this area of the car collects all the road grime and oil drips. if the crossmember is still on the pan will never come out. You'll need to lose the crosmember or unbolt the engine mounts front and rear and raise the engine enough to slid it out. Sorry.
