What is your oil pressure on a hot engine??
What weight of oil are you using????
Do you have distributor gear wear??????
If you know what brand of oil pump you have???? Thanks Bill

Bill,

IIRC its 25 @ idle, 55-60 @ 3300 rpms, Valvoline 10W50 racing oil, Sealed Power (Melling) oil pump. Motorcraft oil filter. DUI distro. No wear on cam gear or distro gear.

Later,

Doug

oil pressure is about 20-25 psi hot @ 500 rpm cold its around 45-50 @ 1000 rpm
10w-30 mobil
new ds2 dissy, gear on other one looks fine
stock pump about 83,000 miles on motor

Hot: 22 at idle (650), 42 from about 1200 up.
Stock pump, '65 block. DS-II, no distributor gear wear.
Shell Rotella T 10w40.

Rick(wrench)

I ran... oh let me drag this out of the memory banks...

10w30 mobile1
motocraft filter (the small one)
Melling high volume pump

I ran ~25-30 at idle 800 rpm
oh man.. um...
close 60 at the high en of the range (3500 +)

I remember running 35 lbs at 2000 rpm with two spun bearings and rod knock.. (don't ask, long story involving a rock and a old oil pan) I'll always use melling pumps from now on hehe..

No cam our distro gear wear after 20,000 miles during a rebuild.

The oil pressure is somewhere around 20-25 psi after the motor is warmed a while at an idle. The oil pressure sits around 50 to 55 at 900 to a 1000 rpm in my Falcon. I am using the same Amsoil Synthetic 5W-30 in my Falcon as do in all my cars and trucks which I have used for the last 25 years. I change the oil and filter every 25,000 miles.

The oil has a little discoloration when I change it but it is never black and the oil never gets so dark that I cannot still see through it as it runs out of the oil pan. Am I trying to get you to use Amsoil, No way, I am just sharing with you what I have used for the last 25 years in everything I drive. A lot of people do not use Synthetic oil for what ever reasons but I can truthfully say all my cars and trucks have gotten over 250,000 miles on them before I traded or sold them.

How I ran across this was my girl when she was young bought a 5.0 Mustang that only had 5000 miles on it. One day I was out in the shop and thought I would check her oil while the car was at the house and it was a half a quart low. I put what I used at the time which was Havoline 10W-30 and topped the oil off when she came out the door and saw me.

She freaked out and told me the man at the car lot told her not to put any oil in the car for a 50,000 miles. Well I lost it and we had one heck of an argument about that statement. After we calmed down a bit I looked at the mileage on the Mustang and she had 115,000 on the car and had never changed the oil. Blew my mind is not the word for it but what blew me away even worst was the oil was clean to the point I could see through it. I went to see the car dealer about this and thats when I started using Amsiol.

Come to find out my daughter misunderstood the man when to change the oil and it really blew his mind when he saw the miles on the car and found out she never changed the oil. Needless to say we changed the oil and filter right away but we put back the same oil that was in the motor which was the Amsoil 5W-30. My daughter finally sold the car after putting 283, 000 miles on it.

Most people don't believe this and thats fine I wouldn't have believed it either if someone told me something like this if it had not happen to me. I am just telling you the oil I use and why but after all that had happened I have used amsoil like I said for over 25 years now and have never had a problem.
