Powerband, I have an old distributor housing with the gear removed from the shaft.
Chuck up the distributor shaft of course with the hex drive in place from the distributor shaft to the oil pump.
Have a hefty 1/4 drill spin the shaft clockwise while slowly turning over the engine with a long handled ratchet, this will allow lifter pump up & prime the rocker arms as needed, with out the spark plugs in the engine for easy rotation of the engine.
Do a final valve adjustment, install the plugs, the distributor in the proper location to be in time, & then light the fire, if the camshaft is new bring the rpm's up to 2500-3000 for 10-15 minuites.
Make sure you have installed GM E.O.S engine oil supplement part #1052367 in the crankcase for proper camshaft-lifter run in wear & for scuffing protection. before the cam & lifter were installed they should also have been coated with moly grease & don,t forget the distributor gear on the camshaft & distributor.
After the camshaft run in, take it out & let it roll.
