oil spitting out of dipstick tube

My Dream

New member
Well, I am always having to clean up oil off the side of the engine and the engine bay becuase my 65 200ci is spitting oil out of the dipstick tube. It only seems to do it when I take it over 3000 RPM (which is every time I drive it) Any one know why it would do that? I even put a piece ifrubber tub on it to extend it up about 5" but it would still spit it out.

Here are the specs on the engine: Offy weber tri power, Mallory unilte II mechanical adv dist, Clifford 6-1 header with port devider, clifford 282 cam with dual valve springs and titanium retaners, Rhodes variable bleed lifters, electric fuel pump, electric fan, Thats about it.

Let me know if you have any ideas as to what could cuase the oil to spit out of the dipstick tube.

Seems your getting pressure in the bottom end which is blowing oil out the dipstick.

Does your car have a road draft tube or a PCV valve?

If its the tube is it clogged somehow?

If its a PCV valve is the valve bad or clogged?

The way you get pressure in the bottom end is blowby from worn rings.

It has a PCV, I guess I should have mentioned that huh. The PCV system is working correctly, The engine was rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago, I did a compression check approx 400 miles ago and all cyl were between 170 and 182.

Ever put a vacuum gauge on it? Just wondering how much vacuum it draws at various loads. Maybe you need to find another pcv valve with a little bigger hole in it, you may have to tweak your carbs a little after that. Also whats your breather like? Do you have a high volume oil pump? Maybe there is so much oil up top the bottom end cant breathe? Just trowing out ideas...

You just may have givin me the answere....Since the PCV gets its vacume from the manifold, I bet that when I step on it and the outer 2 carbs open up, it looses manifold vacume and the PCV system stops working. I will get a vacume guage on it and try that out tomarow.

We recently had quite a PCV discussion in the Hardcore section.

In it there were several descriptions of the operation. In some cases, at WOT the PCV valve does not pass much vapor and the engine is allowed to breathe out of a vented oil filler cap.
Do you have a vented oil filler cap, or is it closed?
If closed, you may need the style of cap that has a nipple and a hose running to the carburetors.

I think he means the one where it has a hose that runs to the carb or the air cleaner.

No I was just wondering if his was vented with the screen like he said or a sealed cap. Some sealed caps had a nipple to vent it to the carburetor, some did not.
