OK, I have a 2 barrel Weber... now how do I get it to run??

I got my adapter from Summit yesterday. I must have gotten the wrong adapter because the 1 barrel flange was too small to bolt directly to the log or to drill and slot the corners. It would bolt to the stock carb adapter, however.

So what I did was fabricate a plate from 5/16 aluminum with the same bolt holes as the carb adapter. Then the Trans-Dapt adapter would fit on in the correct orientation and still give me more clearance than bolting it to the stock carb adapter.

The whole deal (5/16 plate/trans-dapt adapter, and carb) is onlt about 1" taller than my Carter YF. A drop-base air cleaner should make it all fit right.

Speaking of my carb, I got a Motorcraft carb from an '81 Escort with an automatic, I think it is the Carter Weber. I had to cut and paste together a throttle linkage, but I have one that works now. Now I need help with the vacuum lines (there are about 6 to 8 lines) and the tuning. I haven't seen an air screw on the carb at all.

Theres a small solenoid near the bottom of the carb. We connected the solenoid to the ignition resistor, it doesn't seem to have an effect whether or not we connect or disconnect it.

Maybe remove the carb to identify the vacuum ports by first principles. Are they above the choke? That's ambient pressure. Below the choke might show slightly more vacuum.

Venturi vacuum lines can be eyeballed by following the drilled passages through. Manifold vacuum is below the throttle plates at all times. Vacuum off-idle will be below the venturi, but above the throttle plates.

Ensure there is a full seal between the carb and adaptor base - if you have made your own gasket a light brushing with Permatex #3 can help.

Standard procedure I recommend for startup (cam break in) is to have someone drive over in a matching car (engine) and borrow their carb. You know it will work fine.

I got it running decently now. we took the top off of the carb and took the two hollow screws in the center out and I blew them out... they were completely clogged. Dad messed with the adjusting screws while I set the timing. I set it to 8* BTDC, thats where it seemed to run best.

The carb is a 23/25. I am thinking that a 32/36 would work better, so I may get one of the new carbs from Stovebolt next week when I get paid.

hmmm 23 /25 -

sure you are not measuring the venturies ID?

the carb bore will be 32/36 measured underneath where the butterflys are

Its stamped on the side of the carb. If I take the carb off again I will measure the butterflies and the venturi if I can get the calipers to it.
