On a Date!!!

My car was running great really and it was peppy and it's timed right, the 1100v performs great, except i think my car got jealous of my date  so decided to flood the carb to over flow the carb with gas POORING out when i cranked.

here's what happened (Keeping it strickly car)

driving on the free way to take her home going about 65-70mph came up to an off ramp because they forced us to get off (road construction). go to hit the gas and ... nothing the engine has already stalled i was like 'oh this is new' never had it happen before. i crank and crank and crank, hitting gas every once in a while (usually i never hit the gas except to adjust the choke when cold but it wasn't cold it was warm because i had the header going) so i finally get out and push the car to the side of the road. pop the hood and cranking from inside the engine bay. as cranking gas started pooring out like it was being pumped out it looked like through the plastic adjuster on the 1100v as the top of the carb was overflowing (not the air inlet but the shelf next to it where that plastic piece is slanted out almost horizontal) that area.... anyways i decided to let her cool down and see if that would help. it did start after 30mins so i guessed it was alright. started to go and it stalls again!!! less than 5 feet away. so i started it quickly and hit the punched the gas, reved rough the smoothed out when it started to reach 2k rpm in park. so i decided to drive it at 2000 rpm all the way until i could switch it out with a modern car :( . it stalled every time i reached 1k rpm in gear so basicly stop lights, started it the same way as before, pedal to floor, and drove with foot on brake and gas shifting in and out of neutral.

so what does this mean? what can i do? how to fix?

Thanks in advance,
Richard

About the same thing happen to me. First time I took my wife out on a date with the car, it got jealous and about the same thing happen to me.

The next day a got a carb rebuild kit and rebuilt the carb. Didn't have a problem with it sense then.

What JackFish said.

Just had it happen to me. Put on a carb that I ran about a year ago after doing jet and squirter changes and it was pucking gas out the sight hole and vent tube :x . New float valve and seat will be here Monday.

well i started it right up this morning, worked like a charm, i ran the heater (flows thru that carb plate) and drove for a while and can't get it to do the same. i don't have the problems you described on turns, and i tried to drive aggresivly but nothing, i did notify pony carbs and just waiting for thier response, probably on monday
but i'll keep you updated, i guess it jsut didn't like last night. i don't get it.

JackFish is correct. Just rebuild that carb and install a new float. Most rebuild kits don't have a float in it. You'll have to buy it as a separate part...

Some might have missed it, but he's got a 'Brand New' Pony Vaporizer aka $400 carburetor. If I were in his shoes, and I was in similar ones...I'm not doing more than adjusting the mixture, idle, choke, setting within the first year. $400+ ought to be good for at least that much service.

It may not be the same issue I had on mine, and I agree with Jackfish that it's likely the needle was not seating...question is why. Hopefully you flushed the fuel lines as they mentioned and your tank's condition is okay (ie not too full of crud). Crud can build up on the seat keeping the needle from seating...Pony refers to this as 'old faithful' in their video...fuel pouring out of carb, like out the vent rod assembly on top the bowl. I'd be sure you have a second filter inline to guard against excess crud, besides the one that threads into the carb body don't have the finest mesh/filtering element. I used a NAPA equivalent of a G2 (see through generic filter).

If it's a mfg issue like mine was with the needle/float hanging up, I'm sure it will show up again.

I've heard of over protective mothers, but not cars...maybe your car was suggesting she was not the right girl for you :P Ever seen/read Stephen King's Christine
Good luck

My car gave me mix signals about my ex. When i was driving over there angry as all get out it died about five times. Yet when i left her house right away instead of staying while her mom was gone the starter died.

The point is my car couldn't make up its mind whether it liked that girl

yeah... i was taking her home.... so i think she likes her... LOL

but i have driven it rough for the past few days and still got 20mpg

i'm hesitant to send it back... i found out what it was though....

she needs to warm up completely until she idles smooth... starting she's rough and not all cyl's sound/feel like they are firing... i bet that's not good.. but i rev the engine to 2k-2500 and let her smooth out and she idles great and steady after that... 2-3 mins and i'm off.

any idea's it's no big deal now that i know i can't just take off on a cold engine. i think it's because the exhaust-choke tube is loose... i'll fix it soon as my uncle's back

Thanks,
Richard

 man i'm little less able to work on my mustang as much as i used to... little lady friend has taken my time... i'm dreading the future condition of my car at this rate. just need to get that t5 installed...

Ah yes, good luck in finding said time friend I know that coincidentally after me and my ex broke up my car suddenly got so much work done to it :P.
