Optional equipment for '63 Falcon?

I have a question for anyone out there that may have an answer on this.

I just got the book "Falcon, The new size Ford". In the book there is a scanned image from what looks like an order book for a 170 High Performance Kit. (Part # C2dz 68068-A). The scanned image stated:
"The completeness of this high performance Falcon kit adds sparked performance to the 170 Falcon engine. It provides durability during sustained high-speed highway driving. This kit offers that "Extra Punch" when needed for passing and attaining higher top speeds".

The caption for the picture said that the kit "Consisted of a revised cam and valve train, increased capacity fuel system, special distributer and revised cylinder head and heavy duty drive shaft".

Has anyone ever heard of this kit, was it a widely available option, and if so, what were the actual benefits of the kit? Extra power and torque?

Thanks!!

I've only seen it in Ray Miller's book. Don't know of anyone who actually had, or used, one. Not that it didn't exist, but I suspect people who were interested in 'go fast goodies' weren't playing with sixes in 63. I mean, the 406 and 427 were available new in 63, why bother with a 170? Shoehorning an FE into a 63 Falcon, now that would be cool! 8)

This was a kit supplied by Ford dealers at the time to 'boost' performance of the 170 six. The kit was sold over the counter for $100.00. I happened to find an old Hot Rod mag. at a swap meet and remember reading an article about this kit. Hope this helps. Paul

Would anyone happen to know how "good" it actually was? Was it basically a way to get $100.00 out of peoples hands, or did it actually do some good.

Also, would anyone know if there is a way to determine if a car had this kit installed in it? Where would someone look to see if that part number I listed would be visible?

I'd like to know the specifics of this option too. I have a 170 with a "High Performance" badge on the valve cover! It would be nice to know if it has a hot cam, bigger valves, larger fuel tank, special distributor, (whatever that means) revised cylinder head (ported?) and heavy-duty drive shaft (like a V8?). How would one know without disassembling the car? This sound almost as alluring as the elusive six-cylinder sprint!

Ragtop,
I am wondering if maybe the part number I listed before would be of any help. The more that I am thinking of it, I am wondering if it may be on the head itself somewhere. As to the "increased capacity fuel system" mentioned, I was thinking that it meant a larger diameter fuel line and higher flow rate fuel pump.
Since I only posted this question about it this morning, I am hoping that those of us who can't access the site during the day will have some additional information to entice us with tonight.
If we can get a part number to look for on the head and other parts, might be something to look for at the yards. Hey, it could happen.
