i ordered it from somewhere, and i ordered an 80-83 head, what they sent me is a '69 which i believe is from a 250
castin number for the head i'm lookin at is C9DE 6090 M

larger carb hole as well, right?
wasn't there a diff between the 200 and 250? how can i tell which is which?

it's been rebuilt, can the valves be hardened when bein rebuilt? if so, how can i check that?

basically... should i consider shippin it back to get the correct head, or is this one just as good?

You can usually see hardened valve seats by looking around the heads of the valves. You are looking for an insert that has been cut and pressed into the head under each exhaust valve. Another big difference between the head that you have and the one you wanted is intake valve size- the later head has larger intake valves and flows better. They both have the larger carb hole, no differences between the 200 and 250 heads.

Chamber sizes are different? I think the 250 head has to be milled to keep the compression up. There is a head swap FAQ somewhere here.

well... no hardened valve seats here...

is it really that big of a difference if i don't use them? the intake valve is a bit annoying, but if the valve seats don't really fail that badly, then i don't think i'll really worry about it, shipping's a pain with these

Howdy Evan:

'69 M head = 1.69" intake valve face
E0XX head = 1.75" intake valve face

Both have an, as cast, chamber volume of aprox 62 ccs.

200 and 250 heads are identical for a given casting.

Hardened valve seats are a necessity if you plan to put thousands of miles on this engine, or to use it for sustained high rpm running. For the typical sunny day, hobby car it is not essential.

The advantage to the "M" head is the flat-topped log, which facilitates modifing for a direct mounted two barrel.

Personally, I'd mess with the shipping ( I know what a pain it is).

Adios, David
