pertronix ignitor problems

Has anyone had any problems burning out their ignitor? I toasted mine, pertronix replaced it, and now i'm worried that I'll burn it again. Their tech line told me that my coil needed to have 3 ohms resistance between the + & - posts, but their instructions say 1.5 ohms for 6-8 cyl . If I put a ballast resistor inline(Ilike that word) will it affect performance? Current Ohms on my coil read 1.2 on my multimeter.

I never had any problem like that, and ive been running pertronix for about 6 months. Did you use the flamethrower coil?

No, I'm using a summit racing coil. It's brand new, as I sent my old one back to Summit because it had a dent in the casing and didn't have the proper ohm range as provided by Summit tech. I'm starting to distrust these so called "techs" as the ohms Summit gave for my coil was .7 and no one makes a coil with that little resistance that I've found. The new one they sent me had 1.2 same as the last one.

Just starting to?? I often wondered where they find their garden variety "techs". The writers for the professor overdrive columns are sales hacks.

Just my opinion, but I would try the Pertronix Flame Thrower Coil. Ive used it and gotten nothing but good things. I love mine, and wouldn't trade it for the world (or a Duraspark II). I gap my plugs at .45, and get a powerful spark in every cylinder.

Well, I installed the new ignitor today, w/a resistor inline.Got my fingers crossed.
