Pertronix Questions

Hello. I recently purchased a distributor from a 66 Mustang. It already has the Pertronix installed. have a couple of questions:

1) Is there any way of telling if its a Pertronix I or II model without removing the unit from the distributor

2) Can I still use the stock ignition coil with the Pertronix? I see a lot of people going with the flamethrower (which I will probably go with eventually) but I was wondering if I could use the stock ignition while I wait for the Flamethrower to arrive? Is there an Autozone/Advance Auto Parts alternative to the Flamethrower?

My poor points are about to go and I would like to make this swap asap. Thanks for any and all help. Have a great day

PS - Any links pointing me in a good direction for a distributor swap would also be appreciated. Thanks

PI or PII, doesn't really matter. You can use the stock coil, but you get more fire with the Flamethrower.

if its pertronix 1 the module under the dizzy cap is black if its pertronix 2 the module will be red; and yes autozone and discount both sell high performance coils like accel.

Like others said it will work with the stock coil. Many stores stock the MSD blaster coils. I have not had any trouble with mine.
