possibility of modifying the head still on the block

without dealing with the hassle of removing the head . is it possible to mill the top or grind down flat to install the h/w 2v carb. it seems like a bit of work and the motor i want to try this on is my old motor in the car still. i read somewhere to just plug up the existing hole with an oil soaked rag and when done vacuum it out. has anyone done this before, if so please tell me your plan of action. i did do a search and didnt come up with anything on my specific procedure to go ahead with this.

i hear use vaseline. catches the stuff nicely. I am too scared to do this

You'll minimize the amount of stuff that gets into the engine, but there will still be some contamination.

When you were mentioning using a rag, did you mean stuffing a rag right down into the log on either side of the carb hole? Because that would help, along with vacuuming, and vaseline, and....

In any case, you'll probably be alright, as long as you're careful.

i am a bit unsure. on how to grind down the top still on and in the car. steady hands and a nice thick gasket.

i ground a pile of metal fron the intake when the head was still on, i just stuffed a rag on either side and started grinding, theres a fair bid of distance from the intake hole to the ports so it should be fine, i vacuumed before and after taking out the rags, never had any problem and that was a lot of filings.

what did you use to grind with? did you take any pictures warrior? did you grind to fit an 2v carb on there? glad it worked i hope i can do the same.

nope, i didnt grind to fit a 2V carb, but i certainly coulda, but i ground the inside of the intake for smoother air/fuel flow, i used a carbide cutter and a few sanding rolls, worked really nice. what i would do for the 2V though is take an angle grinder and cut the raised part off, if u need to, otherwise just grind it down with th same grinder and a thick grinding blade, might take a little while, and dont rush it either it should be smooth and flat....but once u have it ground flat then take a 2V carb spacer and trace the hole u need onto the intake, then grind it out with a carbide bit...smooth it up with a sanding roll and then make up an aluminum plate that u can bolt on to the flat area u just ground....drill and tap holes into the log so u can bolt the plate onto it. I just came up with an idea. If the area isnt totally smooth, maybe just paste on a pile of JB weld, then sant it with a block sander untill its flat, kinda like metal bondo...then u can make a hole in the plate and grind it out to fit the hole in the intake. When thats all done u can clean everything up and make some gaskets and all that fun stuff....but also dont forget to measure out the studs and al that for the carb. I havent actually done this, but i think this is how i would do it....so feel free not to listen to me, lol. anyone else have a way of doing it?

i dont think people highly recommend doing this. so i might not get many responses.i belive i can go ahead with this. ive been having trouble with clearance issues with my h/w so i will first grind down the top a little bit and then go from there. if i like it then cool. if not then the rest of the top will go.i am also getting three rags , with oil soaked and magnets inside them . this way i am sure to get all the pieces

sweet...let us know how it goes. maybe more people will try it if u are successful because most people most likely dont want to take off the head for a mod like that when u can buy an adapter...although this way still gives more power.
