First of all its running good, with 15W40 oil has 50lbs oil pressure on start up at idle, couple things I wanted to mention.

First, I think the ignition system is putting my old generator to work, will get to high 12V area at 2000rpm, so Im thinkin I should upgrade to an alternator?

Second is the carb, playing around with it, the idle misture screw turned all the way in doesn't stall it, a couple turns out it vacuum and idle drops, so Im thinking I need to change to some smaller jets there?, what are your guys thoughts?

At 1000rpm, my vacuum gauge was reading 15"Hg. About 600-700 rpm area it starts to lope a little, anything over that is smooth sailing, and the engine is very responsive when revving in any manner

ok first i would upgrade to an alternator, a nice 60amp unit should do real nice for you. you can even get a one wire conversion kit to use the earlier alternator. thats what i used on my 64 falcon.

second what carb are you using? if you can turn the idle mixture screw in all the way and not stall the engine, then you have one of two issues, the idle speed screw is too far out and the engine is running on the transition circuit, or you have an internal fuel leak somewhere.

as for your idle speed, it sounds like you need to set it at about 800rpm or so.

Update time,

Upgraded to a 65amp alternator meant for a early mustang and all is good. Stays over 13V no matter what , some random spot under the dash anyway, at all times. Havent done a reading on the battery itself as my old man was messing around with the mutli-meter settings while connected to a car battery and fried it to smithereens. :rolflmao: Thing was toast, no harm done though.

Also took the time to rewire my ignition wiring, scrapped the sketchy setup I had (pulling power for ignition from under the dash from what I believe is power for the radio or dash lights. I dont know. Im pretty sure a prev owner was under there doing mickey mouse work so things would "work", nothing dangerous, but I just take every precaution to prevent a fire. So i straightened things out. Wired up a relay using my previous power supply wire into just a switching signal for the relay, and now pulling power directly form the battery. Feel much better about that.

Didnt commit to buying a whole jet kit for now for the 32/36, but did buy smaller main jets. Also put a wideband on the exhaust, only reading from one downpipe from the dual outlet header, so not great but acceptable (for me anyway). Havent driven with it the wideband yet, but idling its around 13.5-13.7. Fairly stable in that area too  Revving drops it to 12's momentarily.

Idle changes as it warms up (higher), Im 21 so I didnt grow up with old cars but Ive come to assume its normal. Will stall with foot off gas pedal when cold, does some chugging, haunting, hunting, whatever its called when cold and held around 1-1.1K rpm and kinda rough above that. My old six did the same exact thing so it never concerned me.

I think I covered everything,
