potentially dumb torque converter question

Does anyone know if a '71 Maverick C4 behind a 200 I6 would use the same or different torque converter as a '75 maverick C4 behind a 250 I6 (I know hte bellhousings would be different).

I ask because I'm possibly getting a 4-dr maverick as a parts car and want to know how much of the trans i can re-use to replace the bad trans in my comet.

Seeing how the 250 has a much larger bolt patteren on the block it might be a much larger size.
Now thinking futher, a 250 has more low end torque and to achive the same stall speed it might have a larger converter than a 200.

The end that goes in the tranny is the same. The snout that goes in the crank will be the same. The outside size is what I would wonder about.

You could use the 75 C-4 and bolt it to the 200 bell, and then just buy a different converter. A good time to get a slight stall

There is only one way to find out if it will fit.

If I remember correctly, 250's use a flex plate that has a ring gear attached, 200's use a small flex plate and the ring gear is welded directly onto the converter. I don't think they interchange.

This is exactly right. Just use the 200 bell housing and torque converter on the '75 trans and it will work fine.

I have a '66 200 Mustang bell housing bolted to a '76 Maverick C4 with a '72 Maverick torque converter and '71 Maverick 200 engine. I have not it ran it yet, but it all bolted together fine and I just dropped it in my '69.5 Maverick. I will use this combo for a daily driver for a few months while I save up to get a T5 and everything I need to swap a 250/T5 in the car.
