Progressive Kit for the 2300?

I asked the fella' I bought the 2300/500 from, if he had the primary/secondary 2300. He said in his almost 30 years of foolin with these things he has only seen a couple of those. Anyway on the way home I was thinking does holley make a kit for staging one throttle before the other on these little 2v carbs? I know they make a kit for the pressure release valve in the event of a backfire for the older models. If this is a stupid ?? just say so, I know nothing about carbs---also, I have found two books on these carbs---one by HP and the other by SA---the one by SA looked a lot better and easier to follow, but it mentioned very little about the 2300's though the author said if you can do their example carb (4160, I think) then you could dissamble and reassemble any of the HOLLEY carbs! Yeah, right! Let me know if anyone knows of a book specifically for the 2300-350/500 carbs. :?

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong place, I thought I was posting it to the small six forum for general stuff...Just move it and I'll find it.

A lot of the issues your dealing with are becasue there are a bewildering array of 350, 500 and 650 cfm 2-bbl Holleys to chose from.

Holley made some very special carbs for a year called the 2305 series. They were excellent carbs, but found little sales, and were discontinued very suddenly. They are just a cut down 4160 4-bbl carb, that lookes like a 2300 series 2-bbl.

There is no way of coverting the 2300 to operate the second barrel separately to the first.

One very, very important note is that the SA Holley book is very specific, and it takes about 50 reads over each section before you understand some things. Now, there are not many people who like reading things 50 times (I do, but that's 'cause it takes a long time for me to understand things, feeling like a handicaped kid, then, all of a sudden, I'm off like a rocket scientist!).

If you look closely, the SA book shows the 'vaccum secondary 2300'. It is the outer carb on all six pack 340, 383 or 440 Mopars. So, there is a 'vaccum secondary 2300', but it doesn't have a vaccum secondary second barrel. It is in fact a two barre carb with a 4160 Vac Secondary dash pot which opens the carburettor automatically like the back 2-bbl throttle of the 4160 carb. In order to run one on a six, you must operate it off a normal 2-bbl 2300 carb, and then use the same air valve as the 4160 does to operate two other vaccum diaphram 'vaccum secondary 2300'.

(I hope to God that makes sense, because its a head bender when you find a normal 2-bbl 2300 which doesn't have a vaccum diaphram!)

There are many issues like that which are not apparent to newbies reading some Holley books.

Well, I took some of the information I found on this forum and made sure that this 2300/500 had the P/N 4412 stamped on it, so I think I am okay as far as compatibility with the six. The guy said if I wanted it converted to an automatic choke, just to bring it back and he could do that too. Part of the reason I am building this thing, is to learn about carbs and fi as well. I am kind of like you, I read things once just to get the terminology and learn all the parts, again to look at all the figures, diagrams and charts to familiarize myself with the dynamics and at least one more time to put it all together and try to understand it.
