Project progress report

I'm using a US 200 block because it is so compact and light. It's nearly a full two inches shorter than the Oz block or the US 250 block. The downside is that you don't get the good R/S ratio you mentioned. The 4.77" US 200 rod is kind of short. But for an engine that will only see 5500-6000 rpms I think it'll work fine.

The big advantage is that with the Alloy head, this thing will only weigh about 325lbs fully dressed! A 2.0 Zetec weighs more than that.

I like the Strombergs (and SU's) because you can put so much carb on the car with less danger of overcarbbing the engine. The constsnt velocity nature of the carb is such that it will only flow what the engine needs, so triple carbs are easy to use. I may have to tinker with jetting (needles) but they should be close enough to get started.

Man Jack, I was suprised to actually see your new project :? , I kinda expected to see six donkeys pulling a cart with mag wheels

8) 8) COOL 8) 8)

See Ya,

May? You will for sure. There's a reason so many SUs and CDs are available S/H... People give up on them and go back to a Holley. Hang in there! I could post bulk info (cribbed from another BB) on setting them up a little, when you reach that stage.

The sound. Clunker won't like it, but it's classic Jag or GTR.

Regards, Adam.

About those carbs;-The Oz 1972 202 GTR XU-1 Holden Torana's had a few needles listed in my Stromberg reference manual. If you have a Stromberg workshop manual, and it's Haynes manual from England, then you'll see them noted in the back of the book. They are a good start point. The needles can be custom profiled. I worked as a lab technician for seven years, and we could profile them with a needle file to any spec using calipers and fine linishing paper. Sing out if you want me to relay the size of the needles used

Some guys have found special 125 thou custom jets work better on engines over 230 cubes, while Mike Vine Turbo's in Australia used to modify CD 175's to 1.875 inches using custom parts. These flow 175 hp per carb! Best thing is, they are more stable tunning wise than the SU's. I have two Rolls Royce 2" carbs with UVX needles and 125 thou jets, and even these old things flow 280 cfm.

Another thing; I've bored my other 250 block 56 thou over to use stock aftermarket forged pistons for a 305 Chev. Have you considered using a milled version of the 1.25 deck height versions on your C7? Yes they are expensive, but then there is the option of using 5 inch Pinto 2000 rods or 302 5.09 inch rods. Ah, but it sound so easy when I say it...
