Got the quote from the machine shop this week. As you recall, I had a head that was already ported, polished, milled 60 and set up for the three carbs. All I needed done was to add bigger valves. Mike suggested that the most practicle size to use was 1.5"s and 1.75"s.
I was pleased to discover that machining for the hardened seats was also making the bigger valves fit. It's sorta like getting two operations for the price of one! Machining will include blending any sharp corners left and a three angle process.
Cost including parts for all twelve valves (new valve seals, hardened seats, assembly) is only $210.oo! The shop doing the work is in Galion, Ohio, Keller's Auto Parts, NAPA dealer. I was suprised how hard it was to find a machine shop, but to have the one in my old home town still operating!
The head will be ready on Thursday (May eighth). They will have had the head about 2 1/2 weeks.
I'm presuming this is a pretty good deal
