was on a 65 mustang I purchased 2 years ago. The car was not in running condition when I bought it and its at a rebuilder getting rebuilt this week. Someone just told me something that made my skin crawl. :oops: They said it would be a major mistake to combine a 77 head with a 78 block. Have I just wasted money on a rebuild? Thanks.

Block = D8BE-6015-GC
Head = D7BE-6090-AB

Mac:

I have a 78 250 bloick with a 77 head at home. This is very common for the years to be apart by 1. The reason is that Ford used up all of their old stock from the prior year before using the next casting. You will find this to be true for many years.

I almost got sick to my stomach when I was told this.

Okay, Im started to breath better now! :lol:

I would suggest you include a large grain of salt in every comment you receive from that person from here on out.

They clearly don't know what they are talking about.

I put a '77 head on a '66 block in a '65 Mustang! :D

I had the block decked and the head milled to get the compression ratio I wanted. You should check the clearances and tolerances too. Make sure the engine has the compression ratio you want.

When I fist got my '63 falcon, it has a '63 block & had a "61 head." Many people don't realise that ford casting numbers are DESIGN numbers that just tell you what year the part was designed. Not nessesarily when the part was made. A "numbers matching" ford car/truck really doesn't exist.
