Rocker Arm Question

I realize a lot of this stuff is trial-and-error, but I also realize that whatever I do has probably already been done, so I have to ask... I'm about to convert my '70 Maverick 250 six to an aussie head and header setup. The engine has 66000 honest miles--- good compression, can probably go a while before needing a rebuild. I have a newly rebuilt 1.14 throat Autolite two barrel from a '67 Mustang 289 that I plan to use for the carb. I've already switched to electronic ignition. The car has front disk brakes and an 8" rear end from a '77 Mav with a 2.79 ratio. It has the C4 Auto tranny. I'm looking for a moderate power increase to use the car as a daily driver, and with gas prices going up, i'll probably keep the rear end as-is for now. I don't want to have to go into the bottom end just to change the cam, though that's the obvious answer. I know I can have my rocker arms re-radiused to a 1:1.6 ratio. For about two and a half times as much, I can get roller tip rockers. Are they worth the extra $ for a daily driver? I don't mind spending the $, if there is going to be a real advantage to the roller tips, but I don't know how much of the valve train I have to replace: Oil-through rods? Springs? I may be looking for more performnce later on, but it may be three years away, and I don't want to spend the extra now if there won't be any advantage. Any thoughts?

From what you're describing it (rocker work) may not be money well spent. What about a timing set? One of the nice double roller ones with billet gears. A chance to remove some of that retard built into the cam. They normally have the chains sold separate, so when the bottom end service falls due, keep the gears and put a new $20 OEM chain on it.

Regards, Adam.
