Hi

Just putting back together my 200 which has been rebuilt but noticed the rockers were sticking a little,I took them off the shaft and noticed the shaft is pretty scored. Is this something I should not be too concerned about or should I buy the whole new assembly?
Thanks

8) this is a concern. you might have the shaft polished, and new bushings installed in the rocker arm. i recommend a bronze oil lite type bushing. i dont know the recommended clearance of hand though, i want to say something like .001" but dont take that as gospel.

You might want to also consider getting the shaft dry film lubricant coated as well to further reduce friction in this area and help protect in cold starts.

Howdy Steve and All:

You might want to ask yourself, What caused the gauling? IS this an adjustible set, or non-adjustible?

If it is non-adjustible I'd scrap the whole setup and call this an opportunity to upgrade to an adjustible set. but take a minute and inspect the rockers for the two hole on the barrel that allow oil under both sides of the rocker. If they're mostly plugged, you may have found the cause.

Also inspect the ball head of each pushrod. If they are anything but round and shiny, you probably have some oil starvation/plugged issues through the shaft.

These shafts are pretty hard. If you have galling you have a problem you will want to solve.

Merry Christmas

Yeah, I had the same problem on my Falcon. It was due to the oil passage around the head bolt being plugged by sludge.(remember this engine was pre-pcv & used crappy early sixties oils) I opened the passage & ground down the shank of the bolt, then clean all of the rockers & installed a NOS shaft that I had laying around. (It's good to be a pack-rat) :D

this is good information. I've been wondering about this myself as the rocker arm assembly that came with my core head is all galled up (better than what was on my car). I'll get one from Rock Auto. I've had good luck with them on my OEM parts for the Falcon.

8) by the way, i looked up the clearance for the rocker arms to the rocker arm shaft, and it is .002-.0045" according tothe ford shop manual.
