All Small Six Rocker Shaft Supplemental Oil Supply?

This relates to all small sixes

I couldn't help myself and bought another large log head yesterday. I didn't really need it, but it was right there... For a few dollars more I got an early 170 head too. The 200/250 head is a D3DE-AA, and the 170 head a C1DE-A. The adjustable rocker assembly on the C1 head has this hex head on the front end of the shaft with a folded over copper tube in it. I didn't pay much attention at the time because I didn't want it, but I have a vague memory of a NOS eBay item I saw that purported to be a supplemental oil supply kit for the rocker shaft. Maybe this is the remnants of one of those? No big deal, I'm just curious, but does anybody know anything about these? Like where does the oil come from, is everything under the valve cover?

you may have an aftermarket rocker arm oiler setup or a home-built version. the aftermarket 'top oiler' was common addition on Falcon sixes. Sludgy oil, infrequent changes and worn pump or parts would lead to less getting to rocker arm and rockers. early 144/170's were solid lifters which again needed oil and reasonable clearance maintenance and let the owner know with the clatter... .

found yours on Eby

typical cool setup used alternate drilled rocker arm fastener with a sharp point attachment to pierce valve cover which when removed, poked thru the VC. Then a simple Y fitting at the oil sender/sensor port on block would feed oil to the top. usually a valve to limit flow somewhat was included also.

Thanks! I looked around on eBay a little, but evidently didn't have quite the right search terms. I think the one I saw a few years back might have been a different brand, I remember the packaging was different, but the contents look very similar. When cars have an issue, the after-market steps up with a solution, even if it is a little bit of a Rube Goldberg mechanism. Interesting...
