"...a Motorcraft FL1A for my older Fords. I haven't replenished my stock recently so I haven't seen any new ones lately. One of the reasons I liked these FL1A's was the base end bypass valve. Was in WM this morning and the new ones now have the bypass valve on the top plate like all others. With the nitrile ADBV on the FL1A , I did not see any advantage to this model anymore. I ended up buying Fram PH8A's, same bypass location but at-least there was a silicone ADBV. Seemed the PH8A had more going for it at a slightly cheaper price..."
Oh well - no more white onto the orange...

Chad, Alot of people bad mouth Fram. Not sure if it is warranted or not. I have used them at times because they are easy to get.

like the oil - I do my due diligence and finally stick w/1 co. Makes it easy on sourcin. Damn corporadoes all ways lookin to save $. I remember the PH8A as one of the trade offs.

BTW: got some challenges to the 10W30 T4 Rotella. "Use the 'european'."
I found out that's the zero or 0 in the is space 'w' category. Must B synthetic too?

Any 1 run 0W 30 in these ol i6 flat tappets?

No i run Penn Brand, 10W-30. Its semi-synthetic & has all the anti wear additives + detergent.

new bottle, eh?
still green tho

I use Baldwin and Donaldson and sometimes fleetguard. I worked my whole life as a truck and heavy equipment mechanic. There is a reason why truck, bus, train and ship fleets use them.

As far as the best oil let's say everyone has their favorite.

By trade am also a heavy vehicle mechanic and Baldwin, Donaldson and Fleetguard make excellent filters and I highly recommend them.

I should add that I use the 2 liter filter such as the BT251 with a right angle adapter. From my suppliers they are 5-6$. Twice the size of the FL1-B2.

manufacturing companies are now down to 3, 4 world wide?

I wouldn't quite say that but it I true that companies sell filters under different names. For example napa and Carquest filers were wix and Baldwin.
New cat engines use Donaldson filers for the most part and New cummins engines fleet guard.

"...I wouldn't quite say ..." the 3 or 4 (consolidation) just spray different covers on for all the retail.

Napa and Carquest were made by Wix in the same plant in N.C. I say "were" 'cause I've been out of the semi 15 years, don't know if it's changed since hauling my last load from there.

I've been using the Wix filters for all my stuff. They seem to work as well as my other favorite brand (Purolator, which has, for some reason, been hard to find locally) for all of my vehicles but the Wix filters seem to be in stock most of the time. I usually keep a supply of a few here, and buy more when my "stock" gets low and I see them in the store.
