Scirocco Cooling?

I am thinking of ordering the Scirocco radiator and dual fans sold by Summit. http://store.summitracing.com/default.a ... &x=19&y=15

The size is 13x22 and will fit in between the frame rails enabling me to move it forward and have the dual fans behind. I can buy the stock rad for 100$, of course the Summit ones are a bit more. Anyway my question is do I need to be concerned that the rad is for a 1.8 liter motor? I'm thinking it is ok because they are rated to 143 hp.

Thanks,
Don

I think the VW rad might work, but it's marginal. If you have AC don't count on it working in stop and go summer traffic - not a typical drag racing problem. :)

A better fit with more cooling capacity is the no-frills Speedway Motors 19x22 aluminum racing radiator for $149.
It has no transmission cooler or drain petcock and you need to make some simple mounts.

This is a chevy radiator; the ford one is a mirror image.

yes I like that one but I have only 16"'s of height to work with. Right now with the 3 core in there I have less than 1/2" clearence to the pully.

tks

According to this the Scirocco and the OEM have about the same frontal area, 288 square inch's. Also about a 1/3 of my rad is blocked by the bumper. I was hoping the aluminum would work better.

Gotta figure something out, I don't want to be marginal but what I have now is less than that.

My Mustang only has about a 16" tall opening, but the total height available is more, about 21" I think. The 19X22 aluminum radiator fits ncely.

I think the Scirrocco unit will work, but it doesn't have much more, if any capacity than the stock unit.

Jack, I know you are right about the capacity, I share your concerns. My hope was that properly set-up with a dual electric designed for it that it would be more than adequate. You Mustang guys must have more room in front of the engine. My current configuration has the fan in front and I think it blocks more air than it pushs. But look what Rickwrench has wrought!

Rickwrench,
Thank you for the pictures. PLEASE send me any more you might have.
My email is dvarnadore@starband.net. Would you provide the dimensions of the rad and your source for it?

Thanks all,
don

as i recall from engineering school many years ago, the grille opening needs to be 1/6 the area of the radiator to cool properly. the aluminun radiator shown, should be more than adaquate for a street car. we are using a volvo 850r unit and it fits and has more than enough capacity.
