we've been tuning our 66 200 c.i. installed a pertronix electronic trigger, hotter coil. local ford dealership put on a new carb last winter when I couldn't do any significant work. ran like cr..p. distributor improvements helped but then my son got stranded while I was out of state on a business trip. got home last night and it looks like the SCV fell out, is that possible? or is it possible that the dealership installed the wrong carb without an SCV and it ran reasonably well till I put in the pertronix kit and coil and that somehow caused it to run badly? - it was great for a week or so.... oh btw and the dealership charges far more than pony carbs..... :<(

(we have a 69 distributor and pony carbs 1101 to install today, thankfully).

I suppose one could fall out. I imagine without it you wouldnt get any advance in the dizzy plus maybe a vacuum leak which would make it run like crap. The 69 should be a regular mechanical/vacuum dizzy so you dont have to worry about a port on the carb, you can just run stright off manifold vac unless you have to pass an emissions test. If you have to pass a test you may have to do some tweaking to pass then put it all back till next year.

for what its worth i installed a pertronix 2 unit about a year ago before the car ran perfect for some reason about a week after i installed the ignitor the car wouldstart running like crap and only on 4 cylinders. i eventually figured the ignitor may have overheated the coil however i got a new carb afterward because my old one leaked and i got a new dizzy with points and they have good and reliable ever since. i have not heard great things about pertronix i woul try the duraspark.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but if H555 has a 69' distributor installed, wouldn't he need a carburetor without an SCV??? The "Sticky" for the 'Load-A-Matic' distributor references Pre-69 distributors! One other note: I remember a disscussion not too long ago on this forum about some of the single-barrel carbs having a SCV, and that same style carb (same carb body), but did not have the SCV installed??? I cannot remember if the discussion was about the 1100, the 1101, the 1940, or the 1946 carbs!
H555, possibly the carb model that you have is not intended to have a SCV with the 69' distributor that you have??? This would make sense if indeed the 69' distributor only works with a NON- SCV carb! ??? Jim

Jim, you are correct. However if I read the post correctly, he doesn't have the '69 parts installed yet.

well switched the $500 ford dealership autolite 1100 for the pony carbs 1100 perf version and there never was an SCV in the dealership replacement carb, it was tagged as a holly replacement for a 64 1/2. how weird. also had trouble getting it running (i put the pertronix ignitor in the 69 dizzy) so I switched back to the points and it started right up, timing was way off from where it had been, way retarded. now it starts and runs fine. DUI here I come.. thanks everyone. anyone want a free pertronix ignitor system??
