Sheered a distributor gear

Well I just sheared the distributor gear on my duraspark 2 in my 65 falcon.

I replaced the whole distributor, and am wondering where to go from here. I am running a stock cam so it shouldn't have broken, will the stock cam work ok with the hardened one classic inlines sells?

My other concern is the metal from it, should i drop my pan and clean it out? I'm just wondering because until my sisters car is running perfectly this is my daily driver so it will be driven and i don't feel like blowing up my motor. So yeah should i be worried about the metal?

Hardened distributor gear nitrided to 45 rockwell on the C scale.
For the small 200-250 six.
I sell these gears. $35.00 plus shipping. Bill

You need to drop the pan & clean the debris, and replace the oil pump.

I will drop the pan and replace the pump (i have a spare one laying around anyways. While I'm at it I could have the return line for the turbo mounted in. I guess it couldn't have happened at a better time since my sisters car is back togethor and just needs a tune up.

Be advised that a scored camshaft drive gear for the distributor will wipe out an under hardened distributor gear.

The gear i sell is nitrate hardened to 45-50 rockwell hardness on the C scale.

The hardened gear will last possibly several years, but will eventually get some scoring from the scored camshaft gear.

How do i know? I have nursed a scored 274 camshaft for almost 2 years.

You best inspect the camshaft gear very carefully when you have the pan down. Good luck Bill
