Wanting to do the Shelby drop now that I found it here as I believe it will be a help. I understand what to do and have printed the template. The picture is of the driver's side taken accross the engine. Moving the upper control arm down an inch will take me close to off the reinforced metal. Is this the same as the Mustang? Is this a concern?

Thanks,
Don

I now see I posted to the wrong section but cannot move. Sorry...

8) i dont think it will be a problem, but what you can do is weld some metal to enlarge the area there, and then when you reassemble the suspension use a washer as additional reinforcement.

I am facing a similar issue, and thinking two things:

1. Weld a little spacer, like RB mentions
2. Use short bolts and nuts in the original holes, for integrity. If failure occurs, I believe the additional bolts will slow down the process.

Regards, Adam.

8) addo, i think you kind of hit on something here. instead of shorter bolts, how about same length bolts with a spacer the same thickness as the cross shaft and a metal plate that would span all four bolts. if you use the camber adjustiing kit from pro motorsports like the one they sell for the 65-66 mustangs, and make the strut rods adjustable for caster you can brace the cross shaft and still be able to set the alignment. think about it.

:D There's a good point there about using the "dead" holes for load sharing. Even two 3/16 "straps" to span the upper and lower hole pairs would be good planning, and darned simple.

I want to do this on my 63 Falcon so I'd really like to follow you along and find out how it goes and if you're happy with the results. Please keep posting info...and the pics are nice too.

A good day Saturday. Modification went as advertised with no surprises, for a change. Picture is of the passenger side. We did not come off the reinforced metal as I feared. Now on to fabricate transmission crossmember....

Richard, in a week or so, it (template) can be found at my house. The local engineers are running up (or, trying to  ) something with drill bushings. The idea is to bolt through the existing holes, and drill through the bushings in one go. Easy as.

Adam.

8) let me know how it works out. i think i will do that with my falcon and mustang when the time comes. also send some pics, i cant quite visualize what they have in mind.
