What can be done to make the column shifter point to the right gear and not drop into reverse after you put it in neutral? I have a B&M floorshifter to put in, but I hate to cut a hole in my nearly pristene original rubber floor cover. I tightened up a 67 Volvo column shifter by fabricating about a half dozen "gromets", but never could take the movement out of the column itself. The 69 Falcon has the same problem.

Alternative solution, any body want my rubber floor mat for a restoration and I'll just cut a hole in my new carpet?

This car is pretty much an unmolested original 70k car. I don't want to make any irrevesible modifications, but.....

The locking "tooth" or plunger inside the shift hub wears. You can build the tooth type up by welding, or replace the lever. The plunger type are not so easy. The rollpin on the shift hub, that the lever pivots on, can chew out its hole and need either careful bushing or a new shift hub.

Geneally, it's a two-stage process. One weekend, you pull it all apart, discern the wear issues, clean and reassemble. The next weekend you acquire the new parts and rebuild. The second time is usually faster, too from the practice.

Regards, Adam.

you can get new parts? I live in a part of the world where the tires don't get a chance too cool down before the older cars are already in the crusher. Finding "new" parts would be much easier. I'll try to look at my innerds this week. I have to do something, it failed inspection for it.
