Anyone have a source for Distributor gears for a 223 and a 262?Jim

The original Ford part number for the 223 is: B5A 12390-A

I don't have a listing for the 262 so I'm not positive it's the same.

Do a search for the 223 part number on Parts Voice and you will find plenty but among others, Dennis Carpenter shows them in stock as does Green Sales.

Hope that helps.

The 262 gear is C1TF-12390-A. The teeth on that gear are angled in the opposite direction as the 223 gear.

That's because the 262 uses a gear-driven camshaft that turns backwards relative to the chain-driven camshaft in the 223. To keep the rotor and the oil pump turning in the proper direction, the gear had to be redesigned.

So the bottom line is that the distributor gear, camshaft, and timing set all have to be compatible.

One last thing, it's rumored that the later 223 taxi/police motors used the same gear-driven valve train as the 262.

Thanks, Found a gear for the 223, on sleaze-bay. And now I have a part # for the 262, that will help. Yes, I know the 262 gear is "reversed", and why. And yes, its not a rumor; The 223 taxi, Divco, police interceptor and industrial engines did have timing gears (instead of sprocket and chains), like the 262's. Haven't tore into the 262 yet, hoping said cam and crank timing gears aren't too worn to re-use, as I have been unable to find a set, so far. Got a part # for them? Thanks again, all JIM
