My old 170 has a burnt valve, and has been leaking oil past the rings and out the rear main seal, and I'm really wanting to go with a 250 so as to run an AOD transmission for better highway mileage. I'm in Independence, MO (Kansas City area) and would like to find a source for a rebuilt engine, or someone that is a competent rebuilder around the midwest for a Stage 1/Stage 2 build. Any leads would be appreciated- I'm hoping to have my '64 Falcon wagon back on the road by mid August at least.

Get onto our member "Falcon 60". He's in KS - can't remember where - and is a competent mechanical type.

Not only will that AOD rock your socks off, but you won't be able to stop grinnin' when you put your foot into that 250 if you're used to a 170. =P

That's the idea. :D I do hot rod and custom car aluminum polishing specializing in flathead Ford V8's, so the Falcon wagon is my swap meet hauler. I need to be able to get out and drive 250 miles plus without a wheezy old engine (top speed 65ish on flat ground). I've had a couple of V8 cars with AOD's, so I've got a pretty good notion of how the highway ride should be.

Are you just looking for a newer/reconditioned short/long block?
Checker Auto parts sell them for around $500-1000.
