Sourcing valvetrain components...thoughts on Rhoads lifters?

I have been looking around and wondering where i can get the best valvetrain components, springs, lifters, retainers, valve locks, and whatever tappets are, for the best possible price

(have been looking around, is tappet just another name for a lifter?)

also i don't really want to go extremely overboard with these, just something that'll have me ready to run a nice cam and be able to not worry about anything failing up top

also, found some lifters at cliffy made by Rhoads...any opinion on these

8) the terms lifter and tappet are use interchangably. rhoads lifters are interesting in their design. they are essentially an anti pump up lifter that works very well at low rpm, and pump up to where they should at higher rpm, through the use a controled bleed rate. it allows you to use a cam that would otherwise be less that streetable. be forewarned though, as people have reported that they tend to be noisy in the normal driving ranges, only quieting down as the rpm's rise.

would you say noisy in an annoying fashion, like that tapping noise u get when you are low on oil?

8) that is about the noise people report. they say it sounds like the valves need adjusting, or that the engine sounds like it has solid lifters.

Rhoads lifters are ONLY for use with very hot race-only cams. They're a band-aid to allow you to run one on the street. They add nothing to a street cam or even a street-strip cam. In fact they will cost you performance. Get the cam that does what you want and use the conventional lifters, you'll be happier with the redults

I run a set of Rhoads with an Iskedarian cam in my 250 motor in my 81 Mustang.
I like the combination.
The sound you hear is not coming from the lifters but from the valves closing.
The response that StrangeRanger gave is somewhat true.

Rhoads can be used if you have a high lift cam because you don't need all that lift at idle (I know some guys like the lumpiness sound)
That's the only time you will hear it is at idle, once you start driving and the lifters pump up it's no different than regular lifters.

allright, i was just curious as to what people thought as i had never really seen them before

any thoughts on sourcing the other items?

also, if i am not replacing the cam, but just the head, do i have to replace my lifters?

ok lifters - check, i'll just use the ones that are in there right now until i get a new cam sometime, then i will get new lifters, a source for these would be nice, or should i just get them from my parts store?

pushrods - check, can get these from AzCoupe it appears for $40 for a set of Moly adjustable ones

now down to springs, retainers, and valve locks

am not needing these immediately, just want to know where to get them when i do need them
