Bendix is stuck. Take it apart and put a new bendix in it. Make sure you lube the starter shaft with a dry lube to keep it from attracting dust.

I TOOK STARTER BACK TO AUTOZONE THEY BENCH TESTED & SAID BENDIX WAS MOVING IN & OUT. THE MANAGER SAID TO GOAHEAD AND REPLACE. TOOK IT HOME INSTALLED AND CAR STERTED RIGHT UP.IS IT POSSIBLE I DON'T USE CAR ENOUGH. ONLY TAKE IT OUT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. MAYBE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGED FULLY FROM SITTING. BATT. IS ABOUT 1 YR. OLD. THANKS FOR REPLY, MIKE

My experience is that the grounding and the positive wiring has to be absolutely perfect!
A month orso ago I replaced my starter with one from autozone and it didn't do anything but hum... thought what the heck?
I found out that the jumper cables I used were just not good enough!
Although I jump started my Dodge cummins diesel truck with them, using the same battery.
A lot of people say that those starters are very picky!
