This cab is slow of the rank.

This is a preliminary post regards my planned registration of the old xtaxi XC Falcon 500

The project of fitting the stock XC driveline to the XC has been slowed. The engine is XD cast iron, and it had the cable operated cast iron bell and 9.25" clutch.

I decided to use all the stock bits to get it re-registered. XC's have hydraulic clutches like all V8's since the 1967 XR until the XD in 79.

I got an XC bell housing (alloy, no Ford part number ever used), and I removed the heavy cast iron 78DA 3940 -A item form the XD block.

Then I found the thrust bearing is 3mm smaller. ALL POST 1979 Falcons run large diameter snout 3-speed manual gearboxes.

Dang. Back to the wreckers for an XC transmission.

I've got one you can borrow. Low mileage, too. Want me to post it COD?

Oh, naturally it's painted and detailed with a new rear seal.

My XC is a factory 250 4-speed car and came with a cable clutch same as XD/XE with the cable entering the bellhousing on the driver's side. The plate the holds the cable to the firewall is bolted onto the studs for the clutch master instead of spot welded like on later models.

Also the factory XC manual makes reference to the cable clutch linkage and the clutch pedal has provisions for both cable and hydraulic setups.

Wow, thanks guys! :o

The XD clutch cable I have is form the old Van. It is reworked from the stock item with a large pipe socket and has worn through the mounting plate at the fire wall.

Initially, I didn't want the hassles. I felt keeping it stock was a better idea!

Since I've got the XD gear throughout, though, I'll fit it up.

I can weld the XD firewall plate that goes over the existing XC hydraulic clutch master cylinder plate. Same bolt pattern.

addo and 2nd.gunman, I'll look closer and see what I can do with the stock XD cable.

I'll get back to you this weekend.

Very happy camper.

Addo, an Aussie import XC 3-speed sounds like a hoot. Thanks!

If I need one, I'll talk. Freight would be a killer  ( :hmmm: I'd probably put return to sender, not known at this address just to mess you around  )
