Temp Send for 2v head?

Anyone found a temp sending unit that fits the Aussie 2v?
mine has a 1/4" opening for one...

and the stock was like 3/8" at best...

I am running an extension for now, but that is not reading correct... it looks too low, probably cooler outside the head than inside?

I am lucky that my 250-2V head came with a sender that worked, and still works. I tried for a while to find a replacement (not knowing that the sender was in working order) and came up with a blank.
I would like to know if somebody finds a substitute that will fit.

The original is a VDO sourced part if thats any help. Readily available here, so one could be sent over if you cant find anything over there.

I will have to check the thread, but I think it is the 1/8 27?
Then I guess since my gauge reads to 300 then I would want the 300 1/8 27?


There are probably other places to get them, but this should work, I may give it a try....

Actualy I just went into my local parts store and asked to see both type temp senders that early 200 and 250 fords used, and it turns out one of the stock senders works just fine! I don't rember which it was but it was a standard temp sender used on 200 or 250 sixes! And yes my aussie 2v was a 1/4 inch pipe thread sized sender!

Well, hold the phone on that one...

I am not sure what engine it is for, we could not find a listing for one on the computer, so we went back and started opening boxes till we found the right size.

However here is the thing...

with the car shutoff... it reads 180/or about 1/4 there.

the moment you start the car it pegs to the 220 mark.

Now I am not using stock gauges, I am using Hanline 12v replacement gauges.
It is my theory this thing needs a voltage regulator to work properly?
I am still searching for either a sending unit that matches my gauge or a regulator for this one? not sure now...

?

Well, with a sender disconnected, the gauge reads stone cold, doesn't it? So you just need a multi-turn resistor wired in series with the sender; dial it in conjunction with a mechanical gauge to get a good compromise. What value resistor? That's where I defer to the tech heads! Maybe about equal to the resistance of the sender itself...

I was thinking of a multiturn "cermet" type resistor. It looks like a little rectangular prism with a slot head screw in one end; this is the adjustment. Usually one end has 2 lugs, the other one. Use the two adjacent solder lugs, order is irrelevant. The other one is not needed. Solder a lead to each with male and female spade connectors, so it can plug in series with the sender wire.

Hook it in and run the engine up; start turning the screw and watch the gauge...

So I called Haneline this morning... they have always been a great help with their products... having had some questions along the way...

but they said the easiest thing to do was get a 1/8" sender from them that matches the Teleflex gauges I have... according to them this sender is for a stock setup with the resistor built into the cluster and will not work unless I use a Trimmer like Addo mentions...

but for simplicity I am just going to buy one from them... they also said the VDO sender would not be correct for this gauge setup... so for me they were the answer... if you are running stock gauges then the Borg Warner sender would probably work... if you are on a 12v aftermarket setup then I would call your gauge manufacturer before spending time looking around the sender was not expensive and this way I have an accurate read.

Just FYI but thought I would follow up with a final resolution...

So, the only reason yours didn't work is that you aren't using stock gauges. If I'm using stock temp gauges, then the sender you mentioned should work, right?

I would think so... the problem is I cannot test that for you... but the sender only cost about 6 bucks so I think it would be a worthwhile test.

The stock ford senders works just fine with the stock gauges and it fits the Aussie 2V head, I'm perty sure any sender that is sold as a replacement for a ford sender will also work as well!
