t-minus ..2 weeks and 2 days... it draws near, coming closer and closer into port. i am so jazzed ! beware all of you rice-burners in my town, australian power by ford is just over the horizon. i thought i was eaten up with six fever...after seeing all of the different kinds of sixes (supercharged, webber down draft, turbo, ect) some of you are down right critical !!! i am glad to be in so sick company ! please right me a line or two about your first 250 2V. what was your first impression of the ride when you first turned key? what problems did you have too work out? i am bouncing off the walls

I'd never done a head swap before... Didn't think to drain the coolant first. So I mopped it off the pistons with a rag.

With the steering box in the way, the headers need to go on before the head if you drive a RHD car. So the Pacemakers were slotted in and waiting. A lot of fiddling and some Permatex on the exhaust gasket, nearly crossed a couple of the header bolts (who was rushing?); used my swivel-head 3/8" Blackhawk ratchet for most of the 11 bolts.

Permatex on the intake as well, bolted that all up and put on the Stromberg. Dropped the contaminated oil (had half a pint of coolant in it) and refilled. Primed the carb, adjusted the rockers and fitted the cover. A few cranks and off she went. Turned it off again and installed the (ready made) Y-pipe to hook into the original exhaust run.

Car had no shortage of power but was thirsty. It made a nice sound, similar to SU carbs. That head setup eventually went to Alabama.

That the kind of story you want?

that sounds like me all the way. just too have the 2V set-up right in front of my face, instead of on the computer screen, i can just imagine all of the mistakes i will be making did you have to fabricate the throtttle cable set up?

It's different to begin with on a right-hand drive car. Tried bending it cold and it broke. Got her welded for $5 down the road and used a strip of aluminium with two holes in it, to extend solid linkage to the new carby. The Aussie "Cortina" models used a cable setup.

For some reason, I have no pictures of the car. :? It split a shock tower and was sold for $400, less the head. Funny how much people pay for a 2V now. I have the GM equivalent manifolds including cast shorties, and can't sell it for about USD$120...
