I have (well, more accurately, my father has) a '66 mustang 'vert with an i6. It's all original, numbers matching, but being an i6, it doesn't get the attention at car shows.

We were thinking about adding a tri single carb setup that we heard about to it. But I'm not sure where to begin, where to get the parts, or what it would cost.

A little information from you guys would be great.

Thanks :)

Go to falconperformance.sundog.net and order the book -- very reasonably priced and loaded with information. Along with this forum, a great place to start.

i was just at cliffordperformance.com and saw that they have offy tripower setups for the 170-250.

which you can find on ebay, or elsewhere for much cheaper
i believe www.cal-mustang.com has 'em... don't quote me though

Get the book.

It's odd you didn't get responses. Even when I was stock...I got more looks then any V-8 beside me, mainly because no one see's the 6s in cars anymore.

The offy is neat, and definitely an eye grabber.

The falcon book will give you some ideas. Also look at some other people's work around here, like Azcoupe, Mustang Geezer, Kstang, mikey, lavron, and Does10s just to name a few (sorry, no offense if I left you out, just top of my head).

One thing...if you really have a numbers matching engine...don't cut it up. Go out and get a 6 from a junk car to cut the head up. The heads are pretty cheap, and numbers matching is really tough, especially on 6 cars since so many have been hacked up. Keep your numbers matching in the garage.

Does that 'numbers matching' engine in the garage have a real function or is it more like a condom in the billfold?
Concours, milling, set back to zero after gettin tired of the mods?

get mustang monthly...I enjoy that...and every now and again, there are 6 cyl articles

chaz

ps...get the book

it's just part of that "you never know" thing
someday you might want to sell it, and numbers matching gets more money, that's all

Some collectors want numbers correct. Some want Restomod...this just covers both sides. A complete numbers matching car will command more price then a stock car with un matching numbers.

Hey thanks for all the replies.

Yes, it's a real numbers matching car.

The original owner sold it to my dad last fall. He got a great deal on the car, and has almost all the reciepts for it. The only thing he's missing is when it got a new top and the body repaired.

The p/o was a little upset he couldn't find those receipts. But EVERY other thing done to that car has a receipt for it. It's great.

Here's his website on the car.

Since he got it. We've replaced most of the exterior chrome, repaired the floor, and rebuilt the engine and detailed it (It only took us month too!).

It looks mint, but it'd be nive to have something a little more unique.

I can't see the car ever being sold anyhow. The p/o called it "Molly" and so does my dad, I call it "Inheritance" ;) lol

He's considered many times putting a v8 in, it won't lose value...what it loses for the numbers not matching, it gains for being a v8, but...why ruin the fact the numbers match. Which is why he hasn't switched it, and why we've considered giving that i6 a little more pep. It'd be unique.

Putting a v8 in hasbeen tempting though, he's a mechanic, and we currently have a 289 from my meteor sitting in the garage being rebuilt, a 5.0 sitting on the floor of the garage for when the f150's dies, and, not that it would go in the mustang, but there's a 425 old super rocket sitting in there too (it's for my '86 chevy truck...when I find the parts I need to make it fit)

I think I'll order that book for my dad though...his birthday is coming up :)

Thanks,

ps CobraSix, Since you've run both the TRI and 250/2v setups, which would you say has the better hp/tq numbers.

The tunability isn't a big deal, as this car is just a cruiser, not a daily driver.

Adding a V-8 to an T code mustang does NOT increase the value for more buyers unless you've done some serious other restomods. The VIN usually dictates the value. All money put into a conversion, is 75% lost.

As far as which is better. Offy is better at the upper end...Aussie much better low end (nice long runners).

here is a more formal write up:

Oh, I know it wouldn't increase the value...it wouldn't lose any though, that's all I was saying.
