yesterday some prick tried to break into my ute with a large screw driver jammed in my passenger side, i dont know why i keep nothing of value in there anyway, now my lock is f@#cked as is the paint and the panel around the lock has been badly twisted, i have already drawn assumptions about what it was that did it, those people from perth or any aussie city know who do that trick to get into vehicles.

anyway what i was wondering is is it possible to get a lock barrel built to fit my keys as i have only one key for ignition and door locks, which i like this setup and i don't want odd locks (odd locks are my pet hate after one car i had once had a seperate key for the boot, fuel door, passenger door, ignition barrel and drivers door)

i dont particulary want to got through the hassel of removing drivers side lock and the ignition cylinder so ive counted that option out.

cheers ppl

Yes, but it's pricey. What cost satisfaction? You need an "uncoded" lock barrel kit. Depending on how much of a knob your local Ford dealer is, this may only be available through a master locksmith - in other words, they won't sell it direct to you.

The master locksmith uses your key to identify the configuration and assembles the new barrel. You then install it. I have paid typically $35-50 per barrel for this service, plus the parts costs to start with.

Ask about the all-in price of a complete lockset and consider a swap of them all. Nice new locks and new keys - mmm...

Adam.

thanks addo,

just went into marlows (sorry supercheap now) and priced solex locks there at $ 65 or so for a set of three, i guess i will have a spare one if i go that way. has anyone had much to do with these particular locks, they have a cylindrical key instead of a normal type key,? howvere its only going to stop someone from busting the lock theres nothing to stop them smashing a window or performing the screw driver and a piece of blue packing ribbon trick if they are despereate i suppose

Same thing happened to me xp a couple of days ago...luckily they did'nt twist the door metal, just broke their screwdriver off in the lock! I got a new pair of barrels for about $65 from superoo falcon spares. Love to get hold of the little shits that did it tho'

any automotive locksmith can recode a lock or even recode your igintion barrel depending on if u can buy door lock barrels as a pair.

i used to work for marlows/super cheap and we used to sell a shitload of them solex locks and we used to get a shitload back for warranty. once they get wet and old the actual mechanism sticks and the whole lock assembly spins inside the door.

also in my opinion i reckon they look tacky cos they dont sit flush with the door like an original lock.

Ford sell a set of locks as a kit, used them a few times over the years, I can get the part number and approx. pricing tomorrow.
I have found these good value and you still have original locks rather than those Solex things

I'm going to steer clear of the solex lock as well...

I've got 1 keey for my ute, that fits the ignition barrel, which doesnt goto the start position, and the doors have a different key, which i dont have!, i also need a key for the spare tyre carrier, does any one know much about this mechanism?? I havent even looked at it yet, is it the same as a boot mech?

I was looking at just getting a 2nd hand set of locks, but if new ones are not stupid $$$ then its probably a good idea, as most old ones are worn and crap!!

thanks,
Cam

i will have a look at the lock in teh spare tyre well and let you know.

You've got an XF ute, yeah?

I'm going to get a set of Tibbe locks to suit an XG, including ignition keybarrell. They're the hexagonal jobs that Ford used EB onwards. No more dipstick in the ignition tricks anymore, and after reading a thread on FordForums, I believe its a direct plug-in upgrade over the older style keys.

Still, its a bad feeling when you get in your car to see the immobilizer unit sitting on the brake pedal.. The other day I pulled up on Mirrabooka Drive to get some LPG, went inside to use the facilities and pay for the fuel.. 5 minutes max. Same scenario as you, lock popped out etc, but they went the extra step of trying to take the whole car. Anyway, what you hear about KGB (Koondoola-Girrawheen-Balga) being like the Bermuda Triangle is true - what goes in may never come out :p

The part number for the lock set I was talking about is XFCV22050A and comes as a set of 3 door locks and 1 ignition barrel as a matched set. List price is approx. $95 plus gst.
If your local Ford dealer hasnt got them in stock they should be able to order them for you.

i hadnt thought of those tibb locks, i might look into it, especially if im going to kalgoorlie next year.....

Another thought. Since you need a bit of panelbeating on one door, Why don't you get both door locks removed completely and have a central lock type alarm installed. Bleep bleep - open. Bleep - Locked & no locks to be dicked with again, Also you can cut down you lock plungers so they sit only just above the door card so the theiving skum cant smash the rear 1/4 glass reach in and pull the plunger up.

Hey RRR,
you never got back to be about the ute wheel thing...

but i got mine open to find just a normal door barrel...

As for the central locking thing i looked into doing that, but the price of the bits is the same as a new set of locks with a discount on the alarm and locking bits, but then you have to fit it! and central locking is a PITA to fit!! But once its done its good.

So i'm going to go for new locks.

The set I bought had 3 door barrels in it!
BTW, You can change left to right by changing the arm over on the back of the barrel.
