Well I finally got to take of my valve cover to see what all the ticking is, turns out I dont have adjustable rockers. hmm should a 68 200 have adjustable rockers? Mine are mounted on a shaft. well i tightened the the shaft and the ticking got quieter. So should I just tighten it down a little more and forget about it?

A '68 200 does not have adjustable rockers from the factory. They can be gotten off an earlier 144/170/200 and bolted right on though. Your rocker shaft pedestals should be torqued to the correct values and not loose at all regardless of whether you have adjustables or not.

'round 25ft-lbs about
i'd advise loctite on 'em, they like to come loose, trust me on that one

35-37 foot pounds. Word on the Loctite (suggest "Super Screw Lock", not "Nut Lock" version).

Regards, Adam.

When those non-adjustables start a persistent ticking it usually indicates excessive wear in the lifter, the pushrod, the rocker, or all three. What has happened is that the preload is gone and the ticking noise is slack from the accumulated wear.

While you have the rockers off, inspect the pushrods. The ends should be perfectly round. Worn ones will look tapered or even pointy. If that's the case, look at the rocker cup. It too should look round and all of them should be uniformly sized. Pushrods and lifters are cheap and easy to get at the local parts counter. Rockers may take a little time to get by mail order.

Theoretically, you can change a lifter with the head on, but it's not easy to get those things out.
