All Small Six Timing chain guide

This relates to all small sixes
Hello everyone!! I'm rebuilding a 250ci engine, I found out that the timing chain guide is almost gone, but I haven’t been able to find one, anybody knows if it’s safe to remove this guide??

Can't help you there, but get the timing chain & gears for a 1969-1970 250. The later sets retard the camshaft for emission's.

like many Q here the answ is imbeded in the Q. We go around in circles and eventually find the Q somewhat off. If the problem were stated the experienced could get right to it.

Here i wonder simple ORIGINAL type things. What shows U this is 250 motor, Y change the chain, what makes you think a ThriftPower engine has timing chain guides, & more?

The 250 engine doesn't have a timing chain guide.
Could you post pictures of the engine, especially the front where the timing chain goes.

1st step in any vehicle maintenance (esp when vehicle is new 2 U) is ID all major components. True for mods'n upgrades too. This is crucial in older cars as they have hada lota owners. Any of the POs could have done anything w/it.
Many here use "the Handbook":
for anything ford 6. I'd suggest a run thru of the above tech archive (free) while U await delivers:
HTH & is not taken as patronizing~
(there is No Plastic in these engines)

Hello, these are some pictures of the engine…I’m going to asume that is safe to remove that guide then!!

"...asume that is safe to remove that guide then!!..."
I try not to assume anything. Facts R more helpful, but I miss a good deal. Then my garage mates hear some curse wrds

Boy, I just can't see that even tho some pic here (3 good of 6). RU sure it is a Thriftpower ("Falcon") motor?
I can go w/it if U have experience IDing these engines or use the standard ID guides ('the Handbook', above tech archive).
Can't C howa chunk like that would get ina closed TC like these have. May B fell in as the thing sat for decades ina shop somewhere?

Ppl show me "bronk parts" that seem as if some1 walking by in the junk yrd wanted to "help" & saw something on the ground same color'n threw it in the rig - something never oem on the rig by ford in 12 yrs of manufacturing! If the plastic cover was off - a 3/4 or side view might help me see this 1 better, may B not - I'm'n ol man... 8^ 0

Well I have the book, I’ve been looking for the parts mentioned in there, it’s very difficult for me to find them because I live in Honduras… the engime is from a 1975 maverick

I seem to remember mine having that guide, but it's been so long a can't say for sure.

U may have an Argie motor - look to the end of the Handbook and C if it's a S.A. made ford rather then usa.
We have a forum here for Oz/Argie motors (at least till the last 'migration' to new forum software). Ck in w/da
guys there for more complete info? Still not sure what U got dair wid out beddah pic.

I don’t think so… I checked the code of the engine it was made in the US… even in the handbook there is a picture as example of the code same as mine!!

I know 200's , 250 not so much, but I think that the chain guide was not on the early narrow 3/4'' chain but was added to the later 250's when they went to the wider 1'' chain and there is one used on those.
So if you use the early narrow chain I think that the guide could be left off, of course using one would be best.

PS can you guy's not see the pic of the guide the op put in the first post, it clearly has a guide and so does the 250 I have.

Mine was out of a 70 and after thinking on it, I'm sure that piece was on it and it had a 1" chain. C9 block and head.
