Torque Specs and Leaky Gaskets

My 64 COMET 404 is on the road! Thanks to everyone's posts on this site and especially JOE "Lazy JW", a class act with the patience of a saint. He helped me out a ton with carb/ignition problems, Joe rules!

My question is how close should I stick to torque specs (according to original 1964 manual)? I have very small leaks at my recently replaced thermostat housing and fuel pump. Used new gaskets that came with them and new torque wrench. Maybe I need to borrow someone's wrench and make sure mine's right. Looking for a good rule of thumb on this and also do I need to start over with new gaskets?

Thanks for all your help-

Johnny, the only torque specs you should be concerned with are the headbolts.

Scrap the head bolts in favor of ARP studs from Mike @ www.fordsixparts.com

The right front head bolt stud should be shortened to prevent interference with the water pump impeller.

The studs from ARP from Mike are a must for proper head gasket sealing.

Follow the torque specs as specified from ARP. William
