Tread Burn? Honest opinions please!

Okay, I am at that point where I have really already purchased all I need for the undercarriage, suspension, brakes to upgrade to the V8 if I really wanted..But I have been reading up on this little 200 for sometime now and find a lot of it pretty amazing. I want this thing to rip rubber, not for racing but just to know it will. Now the only thing I am concerned about is this heavy 9" axle I have and those big disk brakes....I know, I should have looked elsewhere and maybe later on I will get rid of it....But will it be possible to turn those tires into spin with it, given that I put some $$ into the top end of the 200, go with a 221 head from Argentina, a 272 duration cam, 1.6 roller rockers, possibly multi carbs or a 5200, along with a new double roller timing chain. If I had too I could play with the MEFI or Turbo bit, but I am not sure I am willing to invest that right now? Am I dreamin or can this thing do what I want and still be streetable with the 200? :?:

In my opinion the best way to have a 200 that will kill tyres and still be 100% streetable is a large increase in torque. The best way to have a large increase in torque and remain streetable is to use forced induction.
Now, there are basically 3 types of forced induction that will be suitable for a 200 ford 6.
1. A 100 shot of nitrous, maybe even a 150 shot if build a strong bottom end
2. A turbo
3. A supercharger
All 3 have their own advantages and disadvantages.
My personal preference is for the turbo, but nitrous is probably the easiest to install, and has the least effect when not using it. The big disadvantages of nitrous for me is having to fill a bottle, and its illegal to use on the street where I live.
The supercharger is RPM dependent, not load dependent, which can be seen as an advantage, or a disadvantage.
I see the turbo as the best all round solution, but you will need to have a fair bit of skill as the whole setup will have to be fabricated (no off the shelf kits available)
Everybody has probably got a different opinion on this, and if you look at the cars on this forum people are doing all 3 options, some even using 2 of the 3 together(a turbo, nitrous 200)
The choice is yours, but YES, IT CAN BE DONE.

You must look at what you can do with as few modifications as possible. Follow Mustagroo, Ricksmol, Cobra Six and Mustang Geezer, to name but a few. These people have used as much US content as possible, and then ended up with very good rides.

I'll not pick favorites, but just a log head with a 500 Holley can be a serious tire frier.

Don't discount the turbo option. There are guys here Does 10s, Import Killer, who will help you out, and when you've got such a great strength, a 9 pound turbo on an already strong 200 will work nicely. It doesn't have to be perfect. The log head can work!

I've poo-hooed the idea of turbos on stock exhast manifolds in the past, but just one turbo will yield huge power. One 500 Holley, and 9 psi, it'll work nice on the street. Then, when you get to the drags, add a 75 hp shot of nitrous like a certain Central American guy here (MarindaRacing).

A stock, no very radical 200 shouldn't have a problem doing 125 hp with a decent head, 350 or 500 Holley, and a shaved deck with deap dish pistons. Then add 9 psi, and get 180 hp. Then add nitrous and get 255 hp. On a drag car, thats 13 second quarters. Just a turbo will do mid 14's, and a lightly modified 200, low 16 second quarters.

Bag smoking with either of the three combinations won't be a problem.

It's all a mater of money. V8's are cheaper intially, but soon eat up on manitenance costs, so think it over.

When I ran the Offy set up, I had no problems breaking tires free doing a 1st-2nd shift (so that should tell you about normal starts).

My aussie does it just as easy, but as X said, that's not a US component.

Another option, like Does10s, simple turbo on the log head...running 13s(?) with a 250 with a carb.

Will it be easier with a V-8, but any idiot can make a V-8 burn rubber.

run thru a puddle first

or, for photo ops...make it a puddle of chlorox

Or like me now...have a leaking oil pan that leaves a puddle you drive through each time I back out of the garage...hehe

Don't overlook the gear ratios. Without the right transmission gear and rear axle ratios to exploit it, the engine work may not be as impressive.

i dont have a turbo or nos or supercharger. i have the crappy autolite 1100. you just gotta be good jk. well this might be funny but if you just want to lay some nice marks well mark actully. then power brake. it is easier with an automatic but i have a stick. my car has good torque off the line and thats about all the performance i can get lol but when i do it i rev and let the clutch out not dump it and i start to spin then take the clutch foot and put it on the brake pedal. ive been dumb in the past and dumped the clutch .i blew both u joints once and blew the rear yoke into pieces. i am working on a turbo project thats is under 150 dollars i am pretty sure i can achieve it. its the big post named budget turbo setup int the turbo sections. it all depends on your scrounging skills. im sure with the setup i will have i wont have to "power brake" anymore
